A Korean Airlines 777 arrived at LAS today around 4:30 Pacific. For as long as I have been spotting, I have never seen Korean Airlines here. Unfortunately I didn't get the reg. numbers because it kind of took me by surprise. FlightAware didn't even recognize that it had been there when I got home to check it on the computer. Anyone have any ideas as to why it was here. New route? Diversion? Thanks.

Korean flies 3 days a week ICN-LAS on B772.

Tue-Fri-Sun inbound to LAS
Mon-Wed-Sat outbound

KE 9.....ICN LAS...940P...455P......772 DB 0 TFS
KE 10...LAS ICN..1250A..600A‡1...772 DB 0 MWJ

(FlightAware shows the 23Sep flight as a B744. Don't know if it is an error or was a sub.)

Hope this helps!

Korean Air was originally to start Las Vegas in 1997, but hard time fell onto the Asian region and the plans foe the service were shelved. Over the year we have seen Korean Air change its long-haul market to the United States.

*Denver-San Francisco with the 747-400 was dropped, and Denver is no longer part of the Korean Air network.

*Dallas-Los Angeles with the 747-400 was dropped, and is now nonstop with the 777-200.

*Boston-New York.JFK with the 747-400 was dropped, and now Boston is no longer part of the Korean Air network.

*Chicago-Atlanta with the 747-400 was dropped, and now Atlanta is now nonstop wiht the 747-400.

*Washington. IAD-New York.JFK with the 747-400 was dropped, and is now nonstop with the 747-400.

*Seattle has been added in recent years with the 777-200.

*Los Angeles-Narita has been downgraded from the 747-400 to the 777-200.

*New York.JFK has gone to 2x daily nonstop with 747-400 and 777-200.

Rumors persist of the following:

ICN-IAH with the 777-200
ICN-DTW with the 777-200

ICN-DTW??? It never ceases to amaze me that airlines continually turn their noses up at routes...unless some other carrier is serving them. I can guarantee you that Korean Airlines doesn't even know WHAT 'Detroit' is, never mind WHERE it is. But because NW runs the route, they somehow figure they oughta be as well. Amazing; right out of American Airlines' playbook. I guess I should temper the 'amazement' until after such time Korean actually announces DTW.

They do know what it is, it is called a SkyTeam hub. Many thought the same about Air France, and they are flying to DTW arent they?  wink

NW does not serve DTW-ICN nonstop.

The system is right. KE used 747 on its first flight to LAS, because there was kinda reception party at LAS and so many VIPs went there.

First of all, you know very well how KE did last decade!! I am now live in Austin Texas, and I was surprised that it is also an issue between Korean people here. "Korean air will move its Texas destination from DFW to IAH." But it is just rumor, I think...

On a semi-related note, does anyone have any explanation as to KE's livery? The light blue hue (IMO) is one of the more unattractive schemes of the world's major airlines. IIRC, didn't they used to run a two-toned, white (top half) and metallic silver (bottom half) pattern with blue lettering in the early 80s?

The livery has been this way for a while now. I don't have anything against it for i think it is a very good one. Although i have heard rumors that they are planning to change it. The livery represents many things korean (This is my interpertation) The ying-yang symbolizes (duh) the Korean flag's and the blue symbolizes manythings in korea but the main thing that i see is that the air is clean and blue. the white underbelly could mean purity and luxury. Altogether i could be totally wrong but that is how i have always seen it. By the way i believe that Korean Air's Livery is one of the top for it has been that way for a while and it still looks better then some airlines today!!!!.

Actually DFW was started as DFW-SFO in 1991 then moved to DFW-LAX both with 744. Later DFW-SEL with 744 flying ATL-DFW-SEL replacing 744 ATL-ORD-SEL. Now the routes are seperate 777 DFW-ICN and 744 ATL-ICN. At the beginning of DEN flights the days were alternated between DFW and DEN both being flown through SFO although both were 3x per week with 744.

SFO-DEN terminated in 2002? 2003?
