I just booked a flight with my DL skymiles to fly from EWR-FCO-MUC on AZ in Magnifica Class. In the past, when I've flown transatlantic in business or first class on other carriers, I've received complimentary access to a business lounge to wait in before departure. Since my connecting flight arrives in EWR well in advance of the departure for FCO, I'm interested in knowing if there is a lounge to wait in so I can surf the net or have a drink. However, the AZ website doesn't indicate that there is a lounge for Business passengers in EWR, only JFK. Does anyone know if AZ has contracted with another carrier to give their passengers access to their lounges, or does the service just not exist for passengers departing EWR?
I know that as a SkyTeam partner, access would be theoretically possible to one of the Continental President's Clubs in Terminal C, but going there would involve clearing security, etc and taking the train from terminal B where the AZ flight actually departs from, which doesn't seem worth it.
Does anyone know what the situation is at EWR? Thanks in advance for your help.

Sorry,
I do not see AZ on the Continental Presidents Club recip list.
American Express Platinum Cardmembers (certain cards) can get in or you can buy a one day pass US$45.00.

Since AZ is a SkyTeam member, as one of their Business Class passengers, you would have access to any other SkyTeam lounge - presumably CO's would be easiest in EWR. http://www.skyteam.com/EN/benefits/skyteam_lounges.jsp

I am an AMEX Platinum card member, and I use the Presidents Club lounges in EWR frequently when I connect there. However, I'll be arriving at EWR in Terminal B on Delta, and Alitalita leaves from terminal B. I doubt seriously that security would let me into terminal C just to visit the Presidents Club lounge there if my flight will be leaving from B. It would also be risky to not allow enough time to clear security and get back into the sterile area before boarding. I have faced some very long lines at EWR security, especialy in the early evening. If there was a lounge directly in the B terminal after the checkpoint, then it would be much easier.
Thanks for the ideas, though. If anyone knows specifically what the situation is in terminal B with Alitalia, I'd appreciate the info.
With all the international carriers that use terminal B, I would imagine that they must have some joint provision or reciprocity agreements for their premium pax.

Alitalia MilleMiglia/Freccia Alata and Magnifica passengers at EWR use the Virgin Clubhouse I believe.

NickofAtlanta - thanks for the idea about the SkyTeam member lounge access. I just checked and see that Delta has a Crown Room and NWA has a World Club in Newark, and both are in Terminal B. If Alitalia doesn't give me a pass because of being in Magnifica class, I can always get in with my Platinum AMEX, since I"ll be arriving on Delta from TPA via ATL (which was your idea ADXMatt).
So, it looks like I'm set no matter what. Now, all I have to do is hope Alitalia stays in business until my trip in Spring!
Thanks for the ideas.
