Well howdy!

As far as I am aware Emirates still have not announced when they will operate to Perth or Brisbane? , however they have recently upgraded their Sydney A330-200 service to a B777-200, I have seen it in Sydney numerous times recently, from just before the Olympics. In Melbourne yesterday (7-10-00 or 10-7-00 if you are in the US!) was an Emirates B777-300, for what I believe is the first time! She was a beautiful looking bird, sorry didn't get the rego!

Thai International are about to increase services to both Melbourne & Brisbane as well as drop the B747-400 from the Australian schedule (currently only to Syd & Mel), as B777-300's take over exclusively on east coast routes. Sydney remains at 14 services weekly (twice daily), Melbourne services rise from 10 to 12 weekly and Brisbane go from 3 to 5 services weekly, again all with the B773.

I have seen the LOT B763 in Sydney a few times recently, does anybody know whether they now have a full time scheduled service from WAW or was it just to bring in Olympic athletes & officials?

Alitalia finish flying to Australia at the end of October after nearly 30 years of service (to Mel & Syd), they complain, that with the cost of avgasit is too costly flying all the way to Syd. Qantas will then be the sole carrier flying to Rome (apart from the Asian carriers) from Australia, with a daily B747-300 from Melbourne via Bangkok! Speaking of QF, they are also adding 2 more flights on the Melbourne to LAX route making it daily non-stop matching United.

Ansett start a 4 times weekly B767-300 Mel-Hkg service from November 1 and will start a service to the US West Coast, probably from Sydney, next year. 11 new aircraft are on order (through NZ) with Boeing, however types have not been specified as yet!

Gossip: The new gate 12 at the Ansett terminal in Melbourne, apparently has markings for A319 & A321 aircraft???????? I haven't checked it out myself yet!

Well if you know anything more please add it, this is what I know to be happening shortly.

Emirates have not formally announced services to BNE and PER largely due to a shortage of available aircraft. With a new batch of A330s arriving late this year/early next year I would expect an announcement very soon.

Yes SYD was upgraded to 772 - albeit ahead of schedule due to strong olympic demand. The route itself is doing rather well.

MEL has been upgraded to 773 on three of the seven weekly flights. The rego was A6-EMO of the flight operated to MEL on 07/10/00.

I understand that EK are very happy with their flights to Melbourne, with both strong cargo & pax demand as well as sharing traffic with SIN inbound & out, they can obviously justify the larger capacity B773. It would also seem that their SYD service is also performing above expectation, hence the equipment upgrade on that route as well! I believe that both PER & BNE will be prime candidates for the A330-200 as that aircraft will be suited to the sort of loads achieved from those ports. Although the strong West Aussie contigent on Airliners.net would probably dissagree! The widebody twin is extensively used into Perth by many carriers.

MH - B772 / A333
CX - A333
QF - B763 (some B747 ops to/from Africa)
etc.
Brisbane is also very similar although JAL/AN & QF operate B747's primarily from Japan.

Pakistan International Airlines might start flying there in the near future, could be next year, to Sydney or Melbourne or maybe both dont know, but Australia is definitely foremost on their list of new routes.

Hi there!
LOT could do quite well on a OZ route.Nothing
scheduled yet-but LOT seem to be expanding.
There is a large Polish community in Australia and
with connecting traffic from other European points they
could do well

The latest oneworld airlines Australian schedule changes....

Qantas drops Harare (also ending Air Zimbabwe's online codeshare to Australia) and Toronto (to be replaced by AA codeshare from LAX to YYZ) from its network effective Oct 29 2000

Qantas drops Papeete effective June 2001, replacing it with codeshares with Polynesian and Air Tahiti Nui from AKL

British Airways drops Brisbane eff Oct 29 2000 after more than 30 years of service in one way or another to BNE   This follows BA pulling out of Perth in July. Sydney services will then go double daily eff Oct 30 2000. (BA10 via BKK & BA16 via SIN)

American Airlines will add to it's QF codeshares when it puts the AA code on QF's SYD-HNL-YVR services. Qantas will also expand codeshares with AA, by placing the QF code on HNL-LAX, HNL-DFW, HNL-SFO & HNL-SJC services.
