Did Ozark Serve SWF/Vermont?

Would anyone be able to answer these questions for me?

1: Did Ozark serve SWF?
2: Did Ozark fly to anywhere in Vermont?
3: Would a STL-SWF-Vermont or STL-BOS-Vermont routing have been possible?

For all of the above, I'm talking about the 1978-81 timeframe.

Thanks for your help!

The closest Ozark ever got to SWF or to Vermont was LaGuardia. Ozark had very limited routes to the NE sector of the country -- east of Cleveland (a post-deregulation addition) it was LGA, PHL, DCA and IAD/BWI (started at IAD and moved to BWI). No upstate NY, no Newark or JFK, no Boston, no Hartford, and nothing else in New England.

If you're trying to reconstruct someone's trip to New England where Ozark may have been involved, they may have flown OZ to LGA and then taken someone like Bar Harbor or Pilgrim into New England. That's probably the best shot at OZ being involved in such a trip.

Thanks. That's exactly what I'm trying to do. All I know is:

1: We flew STL-???-Vermont
2: My dad worked for Ozark at the time
3: I was about 4 years old
4: For some reason I've always thought the transfer point was BOS
5: My mom recently talked about the trip and said the transfer point was Poughkeepsie, but she often switches things she thinks are similar. For instance, she might accidentally say IAH instead of DFW, since both are large cities in TX. Hence my thinking SWF, but could just as easily have been ALB, BUF, BDL, etc.

But...looks like no matter where the transfer point was, the second leg definitely wasn't on OZ. Thank you very much for your help.

According to the maps, Ozark only flew as far east as New York City LaGuardia.

If you can specify the month/year your trip took place, there's probably someone here on Anet with access to an old OAG that could look it up possible flights/connections...

I did a little researching on Wikipedia. SWF began commercial flights in 1980, at that time most service in the area when to POU, Poughkeepsie Duchess County Airport.

POU lost its last commercial service on 12 August 2001, when Continental Connection carrier CommutAir discontinued its flights to Burlington.

perhaps that was your routing.

I can't look at the OAGs now, but as I recall SWF didn't get any scheduled jets until well after 1986-- or whenever it was that Ozark got merged.

Along with the Bar Harbor and Pilgrim options that Knope2001 mentioned, the second leg of your routing might have been on Precision, Air North, Brockway Air, or Ransome. Those airlines all had Vermont-New England-New York routes close to the 78-81 timeframe. Also possibly Provincetown Boston Airlines (PBA), though I'm less sure that PBA had Vermont routes.

Commercial flights started in 1990 at SWF, four years after Ozark was purchased by TWA.

Burning airlines give you so much more.

Wow - thanks, all for the information! Unfortunately I don't know the exact month and year, and probably will never be able to find that out, as I'm sure any receipts, boarding passes, etc. from that trip have been thrown out long ago.

Dunno what you guys mean by "commercial"-- but SWF did have a couple of prop flights in the OAG in the 1980s. Not to Vermont, tho.

The only Burlington that Ozark ever served was BRL, Burlington, IA, which they served with both FH-227B's and DC-9's. Ozark never flew to BTV, and the only other airports that ever saw mainline service in Vermont were Montpelier/Barre (Northeast) and Rutland (Mohawk). We went to Killington to ski for Christmas 1964, and it rained, and the slopes were closed. We wanted to leave but Mohawk had no service to Rutland on Saturdays, and they were running a "Saturday" schedule for the holiday. We drove back to Boston that evening. Two months later, I met my dad at Stowe for a weekend of skiing on Mt. Mansfield. I flew in and out of BTV on Mohawk from JFK (the Eastern Airlines Terminal, it was a dump even back then). A Convair 240 going up and a Martin 404 coming back.

And you can bet the weather turned frigid the following week and the slopes became a solid sheet of ice. Ah, classic Vermont skiing. That old bumper sticker "Mad River Glen: Ski it if you can" was no joke.
