A3XX-50 Is Back?

According to a report of an interview of Mr. Forgeard, AI is considering also building a shrink A3xx to compete directly with the 744. Interesting, no? Since A3xx-100 looks stocky (to give room for -200 I presume) the -50 might look very interesting. The regrettably short text is at

From what I heard, Airbus will first come out with the A3XX-50 and the A3XX-100. Then if sales are good, they'll develop the A3XX-200.

The plan was to build the A3xx-100 and -100F first, then the rest of the family. Namely -50, -100R, -100S and the really big one, -200.

Joni is right. BTW, the A3XX was designed to be a family of aircrafts, not just the A3XX-100. Plans for the other variants already existed for a very long time.

To all: These remarks are interesting since part of the report by the analyst from Credit-Suisse/First Boston contained a comment in which Airbus had decided NOT to compete in the 400-480 seat market segment.
