Armavia's owner has said that the airline will be adding 3 Airbuses to its fleet which will probably consist of 1 A321 and 2 A320. The aircraft will join the fleet starting January 2007.

He also stated that a 70 seat jet has been leased and will join the fleet shortly. The type has not been mentioned but a few months ago, they were looking at CRJs.

Some info about new routes has also been surfaced and include New Delhi, Birmingham and Minsk. Tehran may be resumed as well.

There's no mention at present of LAX and the A330/B767 plan that was being considered some months ago.

This is some very interesting news ! But why would they fly to Minsk ? Is there an Armenian population in Belarus ?

Exceptions confirm the rule.

The airline does not necessarily serve destinations with an Armenian population. I think it has to do with demand as well. Like DXB is mainly served for its business demand.

I don't really know. There are about 6-7 daily flights between Yerevan and Moscow and they probably think there's a market there.

This is what I found interesting though, just read this and it may be that they're still after that LAX flight:

YEREVAN, October 4. /ARKA/. Armenia is actively working with the
USA to sign two aviation agreements, Head of the RA Civil Aviation
Department Artyem Movsisyan told reporters.

"We are actively working with the USA to sign an interstate agreement
on aviation security and air communication," he said.

According to Movsisyan, the proposals were made by the US Embassy in
Armenia. "The American side is interested in the sphere. This is a
very important country for us, and we are happy about their activity,"
Movsisyan said.

According to him, the "Armavia" airline is unequivocally interested
in cooperating with American air carriers, considering the existence
of a large Armenian community in the USA.
