CO's EWR-Honolulu Flight

I was wondering if this is the longest scheduled domestic flight in the US (10.5 to 11.0 hours, roughly).

I am taking it both ways to Hawaii in November.

I flew it before in October 2001 and experienced a diversion to Cleveland on the return because NY airspace was closed due to AA A300 crash in Brooklyn.

At the time, CO offered a large snack and a full international-type meal service.

Also was wondering how much they have cut back on that route. I know IAH-HNL gets only a couple of snacks, even though it is an 8.5 hour flight.

Also, I assume it is a non-Continental Micronesia version, with the larger Business First Section. Am I correct?

I would guess its a non Micronesia version. CO policy is that you get a meal at meal times so I assume yes you will get meals.

Actually, it varies during the week. It is not out of the question to see a 767 (micronesia config) start off the day in Europe, continue to HNL on onwards to GUM or NGO. For instance, it looks like Flight 15 is going to be operated by a 767 rather than the 764 this Monday.

The service you get will be a meal (some call it a snack, some call it something to tie you over till you get to HNL, some call it inedible, some call it worse), half-way to HNL you get another full beverage service with a snack and just prior to landing anothber full beverage service and another snack. I would get a bottle of water (after security) and also brings some munchies/snacks/whathaveyou, as well. Mind you the galleys are always open for drinks.

Do your legs a favor and walk around a bit. It's a long a** flight. When are you going? I can see how the flight is booked for you and the configuration (but that is always subject to change).

To answer your question: yes. EWR-HNL is the longest domestic flight in the US.

It is an abreviated BusinessFirst service. So it is dramatically better than any domestic first meal service anywhere else in the US, but it is not 100% like a BF meal to Int'l destinations. Still, they have a menu just like a regular BF flight, etc. It's head and shoulders above anyone else who operates Mainland-HNL.

Full menu for BF flights is always on CO.com. Here is the October menu for EWR->HNL...there's a different menu for HNL->EWR as well.

Thanks, Lemurs! That's fantastic (and good to know that the menus are available online). I will be taking this flight in BF in a few months, and chose it because I knew the seat would be far more comfortable than anything else between the mainland and Hawaii. It's great to know that the food will be better too.

CO 14 (HNL-EWR) uses the 76H (20 BF, 235 Y) on Sundays.
CO 15 (EWR-HNL) uses the 76H (20 BF, 235 Y) on Mondays.

In addition to your own healthy snacks and water, please bring a pen. You'd be surprised how many pax don't have one when its time to fill out the mandatory Hawaiian Agriculture Form!  hissyfit

Technically it was not in Howard Beach or Jamaica at all in fact! You're right that it was in Queens, but it was in Belle Harbor/Rockaway.

For most of the year, it can make it without restrictions. During the winter, the EWR-HNL segment sometimes stops in SFO due to strong winds.

I did this flight just this past Sunday, and as someone who actually enjoys flying (and not just airplanes), I loved every minute of it. There were 2 full beverage services, one shortly after takeoff, one close to landing, and many mini services in between. The FA's carried cups of water on a tray every hour and a half or so. And as EWRcabincrew said, what CO serves on these long flights may or may not constitute a "meal" to some people. I think CO has settled on microwaveable foods wrapped in plastic for economy class. On this EWR-HNL flight we were served a hamburger. On a LAX-HNL flight, we got a small pizza. And usually along with these "entrees" are chips, milano cookies and potato salad. And of course you have your beverage. It may not sound like much but it as sure as heck beats what the other airlines serve.

It's kinda funny, but people are quite hesitant to go to the galleys and help themselves. After I got up and poured myself a cup of water a whole bunch of others did the same  bigthumbsup 

FoxBravo, I hope you enjoy your modified BF service going to HNL. CO is truly tops!
