I have a schedule in my collection dated Summer 1974 from Air Europe International and they flew TIJ-LUX beginning AUG 1, 1974 with DC-10's. Anybody have any information on them? The schedule shows departures from TIJ at 1745 and Arr LUX 1535 which seems very late for a overnight flight and Dept LUX 1000 and arr TIJ at 1545 which seems reasonable. Flights were flown on odd dates during AUG 74.

Notdown, I do remember the name "AirEurope" but I don't think that TIJ service ever actually left the ground. I don't remember selling any seats on such a flight and I'm sure such a route would have been quite popular with budget travelers in the SAN area (unless the whole border-crossing/passport/tourist card thing would have been overwhelmingly complex.) I DID send lots of young clients to JFK (and later to ORD) to pick up Icelandic's cheap fares to LUX, one of the cheap gateways to Europe back in the 70s.

The airline that are you searching for were Taino Airlines. They use to operate with D10 aircraft until mid 1990's from PUJ, POP, CUR, TIJ, CUN and other cities in the Caribbean zone to LUX.

Thank you both for your great and insightful replies. My original thoughts were AM or perhaps of FI/Loftleidir from then but I was not sure about their DC-10 ops at that time. The schedules I have do not have any phone numbers/addresses or contract airlines included. I remember Taino now and I remember them in MIA also. I have some photos somewhere of them and I also remember them in the OAG's around that time too. I am thinking that because of the flight times from TIJ to LUX maybe there was a Caribbean stop along the way. Thanks all again for the info.

At one time, Laker was talking about using TIJ when they were having problems with the CAB.

I would have to agree, there must have been a stop somewhere along the way, I'm thinking a non-stop departure at 1745 would arrive LUX around 1300 local.

Thanks for the additional information AirCop. What other problems did Laker have concerning the CAB? Was this before their, if I remember correctly flights into LAX? I have the schedules it's just that they are all packed away. Thanks.

Taino Airlines tech stopped in CYQX with a DC-10-10 back in the early 90's.
I think the reg was N102WA and leased from Scribe Airlift.

N102WA was a World Airways DC10
