I am a low time commercial multi-engine pilot. I have not had much luck in securing a flying position, but have not given up hope. I am presently pursuing my instructor ratings in addition to hunting for another way to build hours/experience. I have had an offer of a right seat position, and then had it taken away because of insurance. I presently have a possible employer debating about hiring me for the right seat in a Citation X. I suspect he doesn't know what he is doing. Can I be insured to fly an airplane like this? Is it an issue of higher insurance rates for my employer or can I not be insured at all due to my low time/experienc? Thanks for your assistance.

If he doesn't hire you, gain as much time on a/c in PIC position. If you can at least get 250hrs in the King Air, you'd be better off. Gulfstream International Airlines offers a training program. I know several pilots that have a lot of hours in single, but its the lack of multi engine hours that kills them. Best of luck. PM me for more info.

Unfortunately, I can't pay for more hours right now. I owe $120,000 to Key Bank for a pay-for-training opportunity gone bad at Tab Express Airlines in FL. I am in a huge lawsuit and have no idea when I will see any resolution one way or the other. I am just trying to find a way into the cockpit to build time (even if I am not being paid)! My question is can the employer hire me to fly right seat in his Citation X? I appreciate all of your advice. I will keep pulgging away.

It may be possible, that insurance works a little different in the US than over-here. Still, our aircrafts are insured through brokers in London on the international insurance market.
The F/O was never a question by insurance, as long as he gets typed on the aircraft. I don't want to blame somebody, but I have the bad feeling that the guy wasn't honest with you, telling you the insurance story.
I personally would go straight to the insurance companies and ask them if they exclude low time F/O's and what you need to do to get a chance. But don't give up, you are not alone in this position, what you need now is patience. When I was in this situation, one of the elderly Senior Captains, flying those days the DC-10 at Swissair told me, "you know, the most difficult hours to get are the first 1000 ones..." He was right! Go as you planned, get the instructors rating and if you have a chance to fly the Citation X, do it. If no, don't give up, your day will come. Have a look here in A.Net, how many airplanes are on order..... somebody will have to fly them!

hello there...I am in the same position as you, almost. Back when I was in FLa getting my instrument rated, I Apllied in American E as a ramp agent because by the time I finish my commercial I may get hired after a period of time (9 to 10 months)w them having as little as 250 hours, but the pay wasn't good for me at that time. Now, I live in phoenix, az & work for mesa. I am hoping to finish my commercial in the next 2 months, I someone told me that here i may me able to transfer in as little as 3 months having com multi (250 total , 15 multi), so if you can affor to work in any 50 pax jet airline & keep working as flight instr at the time you can score sooner than you think. hope this helps
