Looking for tickets to Lima from the United States. I noticed on the return day of January 5 there is

LAN Peru 604 B767-300 LIM-LAX 1:30am
LAN Airlines 600 B767-300 LIM-LAX 1:40am

is this the same flight (looking on orbitz) with schedules coming from two different places or does LAN really operate two LIM-LAX flights 10 minutes apart?

I don't know for sure, but believe that might be the case.

Consult http://www.lap.com.pe/vuelos.asp?vuelo=I&accion=L but you must do so about 10 pm Lima when the next days flights are also shown.

LAX-LIM and LIM-LAX operate 2x on certain days. One goes on to Santiago. The other goes on to Sao Palo (?) (and vice versa when coming to LAX).

I'm pretty confident it is two aircraft that depart about the same time.

Whatever the case, LAN is by far your best bet to LIM from the states. Enjoy your trip!

This is correct. On certain days, there are two flights operated to Lima.

LAN 601 goes: Lima, Santiago, Buenos Aires; while LAN 605 goes: Lima, Sao Paulo.

LAN 601 is operated by Chilean crew, while the one going to Sao Paulo is operated by Peruvian crew. Different spanish accents, but the same LAN service.

LAN Peru's flights are very popular given Varig's departure from the South American - West coast market.

Avianca, in my experience LAN are pretty good - have flown them international on the AKL-SCL sector in economy. It was a long sector but with nice interior, good food and good service - decent wine and good IFE. So the trip went pretty fast! I'd say LAN in economy are on on a par with Qantas/BA - and better than quite a few long-haul carriers out there (Iber - cough cough cough - ia.....)

Also flown them short-haul in South America - Chile to Bolivia and internally in Peru. Again, nice new planes, a snack even on short 40 minute sectors.

Obviously your trip is of a length to fall just about between short and long haul - but I'd say LAN offer a polished product. Business class is apparently pretty good - again, I don't know how that varies on flights within south america, but I think you're in for a nice ride!

To/from LIM and SCL, LAN is the best airline. Personally, I don't know how they can compete with AA and DL to SCL, and with CO to LIM. Most flights are flown with the same aircraft (763), the only difference is that the DL and AA aircraft haven't been updated since the 80s. LAN's 767s feel like an entirely different aircraft. I would LOVE to see CO introduce the 762 EWR-LIM/SCL.

As stated, it's "two airlines" fly within the same hour.

I'll see. After flying AA for 16 years to LIM, we are trying the LAX-LIM-LAX r/t for Christmas. The ticket was sold to us by AA so we'll get Aadvantage miles. But I know the service will be different. It was, by far, the cheapest option.

LAN is part of OneWorld anyway, so you should get them even if you buy them from LAN.

Hey, FLY2LIM, you won't be dissapointed by LAN. My best experience was last time I went to S. America, I flew CO EWR-LIM, then transferred to a LAN 320. EWR-LIM was 7 hours, and minimal service. As soon as we departed from LIM, our LAN crew served a full breakfast to all of us in Y, and the best fresh fruit I have had in a while! All for a 75 min flight. They're not perfect, but to LIM, it doesn't get better.
