Hi!

I was wondering if a connecting time of 36 minutes in SLC is enough in March?
My routing would be MDW-ATL-SLC-DEN, so I was wondering if it is worth doing, if I don't want to get stranded...

as long as your flight is no more that 15 min late, you should make it without incident. Good luck!

PS, I'm not sure why you'd fly this route, but you can always pay the $25 same day confirmed fee and fly MDW-ATL-DEN direct, if there's availablity Call three hours before your flight leaves MDW on the day of departure. Also if you get to ATL and your flight is late, DL will do their best to stick you on a direct ATL-DEN rather than making you miss your connection in Salt Lake City.

Enjoy your time in Denver!

Well, the point of this routing and actually paying about 60 USD extra, is to finally fly on a 767-400 and also on an MD-90. So my main concern is not to miss the MD-90 flight from SLC to DEN.  Wink
And of course to get some extra frequent flyer miles.  Smile
On the way back, I'd get to take my first Embraer 170 flight, too.

If you missed it, unless its the last flight of the day, DL has plenty of SLC-DEN flights. 36 minutes is more than enough in Salt Lake though.

Like said before, 36 minutes is definitely enough, provided the inbound isn't late.

Good luck!  Smile

SLC has a fantastic on time record so there is a 90% chance you will make it. the ten percent chance of not makingit would be either ATL delays or SLC march weather could be snowing/windy. good luck though

I flew on DL YYC-SLC-LAS earlier this year. IMO SLC is a very passenger friendly airport and a great place to have a transfer (although, the boarding area for commuter/Skywest flights is a bit busy and cramped).

Your 30 min transfer time should be sufficient. In case you don't make the flight, SLC has a nice food court and a the building has nice big windows for some spotting. We had a 2hr transfer time and time went by fast and we enjoyed SLC.

Recommended.  checkmark

36 minutes is good enough at almost anytime in SLC on mainline to mainline connections. That route makes for a very long day though. If you do miss your flight and it was the last flight of the day make them put you up at the Radisson there at the airport. Nicest hotel close to the airport and they have free drinks around 7-8pm. If you were to end up there go to the establishment across the road for dinner and drinks.

Just my $.02

The gates are fairly close and it is not hard to get around SLC terminals. The only downfall to missing your flight is that the only MD-90 flights from SLC to DEN is at 10:38am and 5:00 pm but beyond that there are only CRJ-100's and one CRJ-700. I dont think you'll have a problme because of the on-time rating SLC boasts.

i have only flown through SLC once, earlier this year, and myself like the poster chose a longer routing just to fly a certain aircraft(738 in Y).
ATW-CVG-SLC-PHX
I could have done ATW-CVG-PHX but my real reason for my routing was this was the first time that i flew first class, so i figured why not hop all around the country in first class, and i have to admit, yes i was a little drunk by the time i got to Phoenix.

But any way, yes SLC is not a bad airport to get through, and the views in and out of SLC are amazing.

Its one of those questions where there is no definitive answer....36 minutes to connect at SLC is fine [and legal] as long as there are no problems, delays or other issues......SLC is one of the few hub airports where such a short connection time is possible, but its still very little time and there is a (good) possibility that you will misconnect.

My main concern is that you will be slightly delayed out of ATL (say number one zillion for take off) which will result in you arriving in SLC just a few minutes late casuing you to miss the Denver flight. If you can live with the possibility of getting stuck in SLC for a few hours (over possibly overnight), go for it, otherwise, rethink your travel plans.

Judging by your zigzag itinerary, you enjoy flying much more than you enjoy getting there. As long as the SLC-DEN is not the last of the night I say go for it. I've had 35 minute connections in IAH just fine.

I strongly believe that any connection anywhere, under one hour is tight.

yea you want to talk about tight connections, next month im going to phoenix next month and i ended up with a 43 min connection in MSP going there, and a 48 min connection coming back. And the worst part is that im on a 753 (well thats not bad) sitting towards the rear of the plane (yea that sucks). so im counting on running to my connecting flight coming home.

Am curious... what is the segment of your itinerary with 753 equipment? Seems like NW's 753s are used almost exclusively on West Coast - Hawaii and some West Coast - MSP frequencies.

As for making your connections at MSP, between moving walkways, skyways, the tram, and seemingly omnipresent electric-powered carts, assuming your flights into MSP are not significantly delayed you will have ample time to go from any NW arrival gate to even the most distant NW departure gate at MSP if you are reasonably familiar with the layout of MSP and the resources available -- if not, you can check it out in NW's inflight magazine while enroute. Also, at some (many/most/all?) of NW's non-hub airports a very useful map of MSP is available, which will detail how to best go from one gate to another.

Im not really worried about missing my connection, i have been through MSP quite a bit in the last few years, and i know my way through the airport using the trams any skyways, in fact the skyway saved my butt back in 2004 when i had less then 15 minutes to make my connecting flight on the other end of the airport.

As to my segment that im on the 753, its on NWA120 on Nov 14th PHX-MSP.

From your profile it looks like ill be coming down by you.
