Jetblue Cuts Request To ORD In Half

ATW is reporting Jetblue will only have 4 flts per day. That should effectively knock out LGB. Must be they can't get the gate and will share with someone else. Service is expected to start 1/27/07.

Why even bother with 4 flights per day?

Go for Midway and see if you can get a gate or two.

Is this a airline, or is this a fan club with A320's?

(2) flts at 11am means they are definitely sharing. My guess is one of the 11am flts may go to LGB.

US Airways must have received pressure from UAL and is now probably going to start flts from the unused gate. I sincerely hope that these two characters try and merge, and the DOT(Federal Trade Commission) forces US to give up all their gates plus a few from UAL.

you don't seem to have a problem with them serving other cities with 3 flights or less per day, do you?

Interesting debacle.

4 flts per day is a drop in the bucket. But I guess its simply too big a destination for them to ignore. The info I read says that depending on the airline, the unused gate could accomodate 7-10 flights per day.

Does this also perhaps have anything to do with the revised A-320 delivery schedule they announced a few months ago?

The problem here is that B6 cannot really consider MDW unless WN gives up a few more gates but then FL would scramble to get them. FL is solidly entrenched now at MDW for future growth through gates opening up or future airport expansion (however that may be done). All other gates would be city/common gates that are not taken by any other airlines.

If it were me I would start with a strong presence at Gary and build a following in the Chicago area or go to MKE to get the northern burbs as a customer base in order to better pressure ORD officials for gate space. Any way you slice it eventually B6 has got to jump into the fray in the Chicagoland area.

Except for Sky Value USA. This airline will not serve NYC right away and does not have a daily schedule.

The HP gate is certainly not unused.

US thought it could move out of it, and move into a current UAX gate adjacent to the US gates.

Whether that's still true, I couldn't tell you. If US can no longer get the UAX gate, it'd obviously need to use the HP gate and not give it up.

I'm the expert on here on two things, neither of which I care about much anymore.

Well 3X flights per day is not much but I guess at least they can build it up and apply for more later. Hopefully it will take off and they will want more since it is the most requested city by B6 by their PAX and through jetblue.com.

Wait a minute. I just thought of something. If jetBlue was to have 3X JFK-ORD and 1X LGB-ORD, then obviously one of the flights would be at the 1100 arrival slot. So if they were to have an LGB flight getting in at 1100 then it would be leaving LGB a little before 5am. So would a flight leaving LGB at like 4:45am to ORD be popular?

Could they maybe want somewhere else besides LGB or do they still have to stick with a LGB flight from saying earlier they want a LGB-ORD flight?

JetBlue doesn't generally serve secondary markets. They go for the major airports in the area.

JBLU operates out of major airports and this is only part of their strategy to first get access and then they will skim others out.

LGB? OAK? JFK? FLL? All four of those are "secondary" - JFK in the sense that it is secondary for domestic service.

Praise the Lord!! Someone else who recognizes that B6 would have the red carpet rolled out for them at GYY if they wanted to.

Trying to squeeze into ORD or MDW is like an alcoholic solving his drinking problem without giving up alcohol. B6 will be in an eternal gate search at either ORD and MDW, and I don't think the associated costs are going to be worth all the trouble of operations at those airports. GYY, however, is a clean slate, free of traffic hassles (airplane-wise, that is), and with the right marketing, people might be willing to make the drive to GYY to fly B6.

True enough for the most part, but don't forget their whole business model in southern California is based on Long Beach airport, TRULY a secondary airport in SoCal.

25 B6WNQX : LGB has a curfew that would prevent them from scheduling a departure prior to 7AM. So that second 11AM flihgt would be for a different market.
26 Post contains images JetBlueAtJFK : So what could it be then? IAD? BOS? or maybe something like FLL. B6jfk
27 B6WNQX : Your guess is as good as mine. I don't think that they would go for IAD as you are going up against UA's heavies and WN has started service from MDW.
