The proposal to create a major airline hub at MSY is picking up speed again.

John Miller, CEO of Direct Air Holdings, is saying the plan now is to buy an existing small airline and move it's main hub here. This idea has been presented to the Boyd Group and according to Miller, they say the plan with a few tweaks is viable.

Just curious, what existing airline could they be looking at?

He's looking to the State of Louisiana for something like a $300 million guaranteed loan.....something that the state obviously can't do.

While us local MSY a.netter's agree, to the consternation of other a.netters, that the airport is underserved, those of us in the know agree that Direct Air's proposal is a little bit farfetched.

We haven't heard what airline he's looking at.....he's keeping that info close to the vest.

I can understand the reasoning behind buying an existing airline, as they wouldn't have to jump through all of the hoops the FAA makes new entrants jump through these days. As for possible small airlines they could be looking at:

Sun Country
Champion Air
Pan Am Clipper Connection
Comair (Especially if the amount of DL Connection flying is drastically cut. DL has been trying to sell OH for some time.)
