I know that this has already been talked about but my computer is sort of slow and it takes forever to work the search item. Can someone please list the times of the around the world Untied Flight (LAX-IAD-LHR-DEL-HKG) Also could you list the website where you got the press release. Thanks a ton.

I took the OLD one a long time ago as an NRSA traveler... I remember getting into New Delhi from London like around 12:30AM and the plane to Hong Kong left a lil after 2:00 AM I THINK.... the flights were jam packed and we did get stuck in New Delhi for a while.

United is trying to retime them to allow more competitive connections from Hong Kong to London Heathrow I believe.. and plans on utilizing Boeing 747-400OB models on the routes. Better than the damned 767-300ERs if you ask me.

But since the re-announcement of United's RTW flight, they have also stated that New Delhi - Chicago is like weeks from being finalized and announced as a new route...   so lets see if this doesn't throw a wrench in the plans.

Also, if you think about it.

Spring 2001 United Growth
ORD - Amsterdam
ORD - Shanghai
ORD - New Delhi
JFK - Hong Kong
IAD - Dusseldorf
IAD - Copenhagen *pending gvt approval* (and was this finalized yet?)
LHR - New Delhi
Hong Kong - New Delhi
LAX - Sao Paulo *pending gvt approval*
DEN - Frankfurt

Anyone have any idea where these planes are coming from?? I heard that more 767-300s are being converted in Oakland and San Francisco for F/Y config and some of the ERs are being used to replace the 762s.... but I don't see many 777s coming online to really fill this gap... and United's almost done, if not done already, taking delivery of the last 747-400OP (#51)..... or is UA and GECAS working to get more 744s ????

Nate

A few things:

UA converted 7 744s to 9 777ERs earlier last year. Their last 744 on order, #44, was delivered in this last June.

- LAX-GRU will not happen because the government has just shafted UA and will grant the extra frequencies to DL (3x weekly I think), CO (1x weekly) and friggin A.A. (7x) for JFK-GRU!!! What the hell is that -- giving the biggest player BY FAR an opportunity to become even bigger in LatAm. That's fucken fucked up.

-When did UA announce a IAD-DUS? Or is this some insider info you have, like ORD-DEL =P It seemed awkward, however, for UA to start ORD-DUS before IAD-DUS.

-It looks like SAS is doing the IAD-CPH run.

-How's about more Euro service out of IAD-- a la restoring MAD, FCO, ATH, ZRH, and perhaps adding service to Stockholm, Helsinki, Lisbon (TWA is pulling out), Barcelona, Birmingham UK, Geneva, Hamburg, Moscow, Glasgow, and Vienna. Manchester is being taken care of by BM. But that's my wish list anyway =P

-I heard over at Flyertalk that IAD-DUB is in the werks!

The previous UA 'round the world flight was a logistical
nightmare. The plane was frequently delayed at Delhi's
Indira Gandhi airport due to fog or bad weather and it
had a ripple effect on UA's Heathrow operations. Many
pax were put up at hotels overnight, having missed
their USA connections.

United also pulled it due to the Asian financial crisis.

One more thing--

Another nail in the pre-ressurected Delhi service's coffin was the fact that under the then-India/US bilateral agreement, United could not fly a planeload of more than what a 767-300 could carry, and so when using the 744 (which would have yielded much higher profit margins), United could not possibly make a profit.
