Etihad already fly transatlantic via London Stansted to Toronto as flight ETD 501. Looking at July 2006, that flight was predominantly operated by A330 with A6-EYA, EYD, EYE and EYX appearing. Surely New York non-stop could only be done with A340-500. With Emirates flying twice daily non-stop DXB to JFK (A340-500) and Qatar planning to start non-stop also to New York (A340-600HGW), it is not surprising that Etihad will shortly follow suit.

No they dont. EY501 is routed AUH-BRU-YYZ and is flown by the A330-200.

EY do not fly to STN, they fly to LGW, MAN and LHR in the UK.

It is.

Emirates will operate a 3 daily JFK flight, two direct and one via HAM.

EY will begin services to NYC before QR does also.

Little correction, the morning flight is flown by the 777-300ER. The via HAM flight will also be a 777-300ER.

Qatar is planning A340-600HGW service to EWR for early/mid 2007 although JFK might be their final airport choice.

No they dont. EY501 is routed AUH-BRU-YYZ and is flown by the A330-200.

Strong indication that they will go non-stop AUH-YYZ with the A345 starting Summer 07 and up their frequency to the maximum allowed 6 weekly.

Cheers,
Kaz

Not to put you on the spot or anything but Etihad has only been flying for two years. It has taken them a lot to get were they are now and they have only just taken delivery of their A340-500 and 777-300ER aircraft. I think it's the right time and not overdue.

What will happen to the BRU service if YYZ goes nonstop?

I often fly this route, infact i am in BRU rite now arrived on EY501 on the 13th October. The A332 was EYE.Another question i have is howcome none of the 3 class A332 have the new flagship biz class? Will this remain the case in the future also?

The newer 3 class A332s EYD and EYE are leased and therefore do not have the Etihad specified interior. Etihads first owned 3 class A332s will arrive fairly soon with the proper Etihad interior and equipment.

If BRU direct to YYZ does happen then at present it is more likely to be operated by the B77W.

JFK direct commences 26 Oct.

The next 2 new destinations are Tehran and Shanghai.

Etihad Girl, You're a great way to fly.

I was reading an article about them in Airways that said New York was one of their future destinations. Congrats to JFK. From what I hear, their service is GREAT.

I've seen their advertisements in New York:

"The Fastest Way to Abu Dhabi"

May I ask who their target market is? I'm assuming there are a handful of front-cabin luxury passengers and the rest are low-yield to South Asia. Am I wrong?

How long would DXB-JFK be, Im guessing it would be touching 16hrs if not longer. Im aware Thai fly BKK-JFK going east non stop and its 17 1/2hrs the longest scheduled flight I think!

DXB-JFK is 14h 10m, JFK-DXB is 12h 55m.

BKK-JFK is 16h 55m, JFK-BKK is 17h 10m.

SIN-EWR is 18h 40m, EWR-SIN is also 18h 40m which makes it the longest non-stop route flown today.

DXB-JFK is 14 hours and the return is 12 hours and a half.

Isn't Singapore-New York the longest flight?
