Quick Question for those who know more than I-
I had the oddest traffic call today- taxing to 27L for takeoff, I was advised to hold well short of Taxiway Bravo for traffic, and proceeded to watch a as a Northwest Trijet (either a DC-10 or MD-11) taxied immediately in front of me on Taxiway Bravo.
Tri-Jet's are no stranger to OAK (Fedex), but anything larger than a 727 is a definite rarity on the north field... furthermore, NWA? I didn't even know they flew tri-jets, and they definitely don't service OAK.
The DC-10 parked over between Kaiser and the new T hangars, it was sitting there when I taxied back to the old T's after my round of touch and go's.
Any idea what she was doing there? It was kinda cool to see such a bird up on our modest north field.

Could it be a diversion from MSP-HNL due to the Hawaiian quake today?

Either that, or a positioning for a military charter, as we're always doing them. But you might be closer, probably is a diversion. I'd look it up on flightaware, but i'm to lazy bothered.

well...on saturday 10/14 i saw a Delta B767-300 at gate 1 in OAK. i'm still wondering what it was doing there. as my flight to LGB was #1 to take-off, the DL 767 was next in line after us. anyone know where it was going and what it was doing?

A Diversion might explain why it was at oak... But not why she came all the way up to north field.
Military charter would make sense if (for some reason) they wanted to ground-load the plane rather than gate-load it...

looks like the NW bird was just in from DTW. and since the Oakland A's was playing in the division series with the Detroit Tigers. I would put my money that it flew the A's back home after losing the series on Saturday.

if it was an actual diversion...why wouldn't it go to SFO where they have actual NW personel to help assist the flight? NW doesn't even operate schedule service to OAK. its gotta be some kind of military charter or cargo thing.

No all HNL flights still operated on-time.
This may have been a fan charter to Detroit, I don't think the A's use NW for their charter services (can anyone confirm who they use). Also, a DC-10 for a baseball team is quite large.
This flight also operated on the 11th of October OAK-DTW.

Quoting AsstChiefMark (Reply 8): I saw it on Flight Explorer earlier and it had a NW9813 flight number.
Flight numbers 9800-9899 are sports charters. Most likely, it was the the A's.

It was the A's. The flight number on the way to DTW was 9814. It was stated in the paper here in Detroit that the Tigers and the A's both were flying on Northwest during the playoffs. The Tigers had a 757 for the New York series and for the A's series. The A's were using the DC-10.
