Is the runway there anywhere near long enough for an A330?!

Er yes actually - its one of the longest in the UK. For years it was home of the Nimrod maritime recconaisance aircraft and has had the odd 747 on emergency diversions in the past.

Plymouth = Short and shit.
Newquay = Long and nothing there.

They have had the AN225 into NQY, and the biggest thing PLH has landed was a BAe146 biggrin

Coming back to the original post, I've looked at a few of the web-rings for the South West aviation scene and none seem to have reported anything at NQY, so afraid I have no idea what it was doing flying to CDG. Interesting news though!

It wasnt a test flight for their A330 that went Tech by any chance ?

G-WWBM ? which had a cracked frame and forced a cancelation of the Mumbai schedule for 2 weeks ?

Oi, my family home, where I was born and raised for 18 years, is only 1.5 hours from NQY. Watch your mouth.  Silly

...and there is even less there that there is at Newquay Wink

Just a thought, could it have been some kind of military charter, they have used Air Luxor A330's in the past.

With one of their three A330's broken I would doubt they would have the capacity do this.

I remember watching a C5 Galaxy claw it's way into the air there - it took so long it was painful so it must have a good length of tarmac!

My sincere apologies matey. Actually, my sister lives in St Austell so I'm a frequent flyer from NQY - and you have to admit, it is in the middle of nowhere!

Hopefully, BMI Will make more money NOT operating the service as they do operating it and pull out of the India market indefinatly...
