We're the ones who are in (at) a loss as to what you're talking about.

He's asked the same question in another thread so he's obviously desperate to know.

If you mean financial loss then no, they don't tend to bother with making those sort of losses.

Hi Anirudhvs,

Welcome to a.net......just curious to know....what prompted you to ask this question...?

Maybe you wanted to ask "Is SQ at a loss...about what to do with their 380 orders....?"  duck

As you can see the ducking icon I've inserted after my reply above, this is a topic that sets off a lot of controversy.....just search for all recent threads on the A380 and you'll get the picture....

And just to be clear, no, SQ is not anywhere near making losses....don't know if their profits are on the rise or otherwise, but they are definitely not in the red..... smile

Nothing is wrong as yet, the only problem witht the A380 is the delays. The delays are getting worse and are causing airlines to consider backing out of the deal. SQ don't seem too bothered, especially when they ordered more at Farnborough. Most of it is just rumours!

So SQ and the A380 seem to be okay.

The WhaleJet program has suffered four major delays so far totalling about two years, about 6 billion euro in cost overruns (roughly half of which is due to the delays), and uncertainty about how many more delays there may be (because the underlying problems have not been addressed yet).

SQ didn't order any more WhaleJets at Farnborough. They signed a Letter of Intent (far from a firm order) to exercise 9 of their options. The fourth delay has put that potential order very much in doubt.

SQ seem to be ok. They have a history of cancelling orders shortly before EIS when something better comes along. The WhaleJet, on the other hand, seems to be in a tailspin.

SQ are constantly evaluating the expected costs and benefits of cancelling vs maintaining their WhaleJet orders. If the numbers show they should cancel, they will cancel.

If SQ are expecting less than a billion SIN$ profit then guaranteed the staff would be on pay cuts by now.

Actually I was reading today in Business Week, that 6 billion figure is projected proft loss not additional cost. Not to be too picky, but there is a pretty big difference.

That's just from the delays. About half of that is additional costs. I was talking about all the cost overruns on the WhaleJet program -- only about half of which are due to the delays.
