After seeing where NWA placed yet another a/c order with Embraer for the 36 E-jets (and the 787's last year) it made me wonder when they may be exiting from bankruptcy in light of this?
Also, for kicks, how does an airline in BK manage to finance billions of dollars for new a/c? Higher interest rates, leases, etc.?
Also, since NW was able to finance/order new aircraft how long will it be before DL starts placing orders with Boeing for the 787/777 and with Embraer for the E-jets (90 & 95's - least that is my thinking)? I believe they are planning on exiting sometime between spring and summer '07?

NW placed B788 order in May 2005. They entered Ch11 in Sep 2005. So CRJ / E Jet order was the only order they placed while in Ch11 so far. And even that was for Compass.

Well the reason they can keep buying planes with attractive terms is because there are only so many airlines and competition between the aircraft manufacturers is stiff. If Boeing won't give you good terms, Airbus will and so on.

Quoting Jetjack74 (Reply 2): Quoting Bobnwa (Reply 1):
Northwest has said they plan to be out of bankruptcy by summer 2007.
April 19th is what was communicated to us by our union.
I think it's highly unlikely that the union would have exact information like this considering bankruptcy exit dates are notoriously hard to predict. What Bobnwa said is much more accurate. Incidentally, that's the same time frame we've been given at DL for bankruptcy exit. We went in together and we may come out together.
