Neither PA nor DL ever had a "real" F/A base at FRA. They operated a minihub there which DL inherited from PA. However they occasionally employed Inflight interpreters out of FRA and deployed them on certain Internal European routes. The F/A bases DL inherited from PA were WAW and TLV. The WAW based crews flew the 727´s within Europe whereas the TLV based crews solely worked on the TLV-ORY-TLV route.
I don´t know when the TLV base was closed, but WAW closed in 1998 and 25 Polish F/A´s were transferred to JFK.
PA also used to have a F/A base in TXL until October 1990 when all the PA IGS route authorities into TXL and all the IGS F/A´s were transferred to LH.
PA´s biggest European F/A base was LHR which went to UA in 1991. This was the only European base that was allowed to staff international flights. The other bases all had a separate seniority list and worked under a different contract then US and LHR bases.
Beside WAW and TLV DL inherited the DEL and BOM bases from PA in 1991. DEL was closed in the mid nineties when DL abandoned service into DEL and focused on BOM as the single Indian destination. The BOM base will be closed in December.
Does anybody know more about the WAW base? Anybody out there who flew on DL´s internal European services and can comment on it?
Where is the majority of the former WAW based F/A´s today? Are the ones transferred to JFK still employed by DL? How many F/A´s were employed out of the WAW base at its peak?
