Question About DL And CO Ops At TYS

I'm hoping someone out there will be able to answer two fairly simple questions for me.

1) I noticed a DL 737-800 at TYS this evening and went home to check up on it, well knowing that it's normally operated by a MD-88 and I was wondering if this was done for one day to increase capacity for some reason, or more likely, was in subbed in for a plane that had to have maintenance of some sort.

2) In my short time in Knoxville, I've noticed that TYS has a CO express hangar and I was wondering what kind of work goes on here, It's not unusual to see a Jungle Jet do a 45 min loop around eastern TN on flight aware.

Yup.....DL1819/DL1189 was an equip swap - reasons unknown.

No clue about the hanger....I'm in FLA

You know, it's funny - I've flown in and out of Knoxville almost a dozen times, and never, not once, have I ever seen a CoEx or a Northwest Airlink aircraft parked at either of the hangars. I just assumed that the maintenance bases had closed. They don't look that old, however.

The best thing about TYS are the Tennessee ANG 707s that do touch-and-gos throughout the day!

Every night, the RON aircraft for XJT go to the hangar for maintenance. Same thing goes for NW. They leave the gates usually within a couple hours of arriving, and come to the gates within a few hours of the EDT of the flight they will be working the next morning.

I was driving past TYS this afternoon with my window down and all of a sudden I heard what sounded like a very powerful jet, so I turned and to my pleasure I saw a KC-135 rolling down the runway. I see these almost every day when I'm walking around campus and it was nice to finally see one take off.

I also had the pleasure today of seeing a Fed-Ex 727 come in real low over downtown. Nothing like seeing a classic bird still in the sky

XJT has two "C" check lines (i think) and a mod line in TYS. Overnight MX is usually an "A" check and some scheduled stuff. The aircraft your seeing on flightaware are post "C" check test flights. TYS usually gets all the sheetmetal damage also.
