According to todays evening telegraph Nottingham east midland might loose ''nottingham'' from its title. According to the paper it might revert its name to just east midlands airport.

Thank god!

The new name was long and confusing...

... although I did like the abbreviation NEMA

Nobody's ever going to start talkig about Nottingham airport, it'll always be just 'East Midlands'. It's already written into the national psyche, and most people know exactly where it is, on the M1 between Leicester and Nottingham.

I also think that Nottingham is a bad description of the airport.....it's Nottingham and Leicester and Derby!

the paper states that they are trying to avoid the nottingham name cause the city has got a bad image. I lived in Nottingham for few years an i personally think the city is great

I once went to Notts once to see a show, right in the city centre. After the show, the person I was with took us directly to the car. He said the town has a reputation for having a lot of street brawls, especially around the time the pubs close, and he wanted no part of it. So, that's my one and only Notts experience.

The name change was made so that us foriegners would think of Robin Hood and his Merry Men. I guess it isn't working out that way?

Wouldn't Doncaster's Robin Hood Airport come to mind sooner?

I personally don't see a problem with having Nottingham in the name, at least it can be linked to a city like most other airports! I think they'd be better off leaving it other than changing it yet again, causing even more confusion to the unsuspecting traveller!

I guess that name change isn't working out too well, because I've never heard of it till now!  Smile

On the other hand, I hadn't heard of Doncaster till now, either...

I'm not arguing your point, but I personally fail to see what is not descriptive enough about "East Midlands". The fact of the matter is the airport serves the region and no one city in particular. That being said, I have no particular like or dislike of sticking Nottingham in front of the name.
