Saudi Arabia (JED/RUH/DMM) To AUH

The U.A.E is, I believe, on the whole about the second most demanded destination from Saudi Arabia (I think Egypt is first). But how much O&D traffic goes to-and-from AUH, especially to/from JED? Based on the number of flights and the aircraft used (large, e.g. 741s/772s/773s, particularly from JED), DXB is clearly the number-one destination.

Pearson, you are right about DXB being the largest local market. However, the Saudis will not relax their deal with UAE carriers as they see them bleeding traffic to Asia. EY wants more rights but is restricted on frequency. EK is pretty ok with what they have, but QR is desperate for more. Air Arabia is left alone, though it is 'advised' as to what time to operate.

My last view of the local AUH market suggested that it was about a quarter the size of DXB.

Quoting Pe@rson (Thread starter):
AUH

We only ever get the MD90, and I can't seem to recall it's more than a daily flight, on a rotation between Saudi's big 3 (JED/DMM/RUH)...

Etihad operate JED, DMM, and RUH with a mix of A345, A332 and B773ER equipment...

A306, A313, A319, A320, A321, A332, A343, A345, A346 A388, AC90, B06, B722, B732, B733, B735, B738, B744, B762, B772, B7

SV operate 5 weekly service from JED to AUH
3 go via RUH (JED-RUH-AUH)
2 go via MED (JED-MED-AUH)
DMM-AUH isn't served by SV, all are operated by the MD90.

EY operate daily to DMM and 2 (or is it 3?) weekly to both JED and RUH, all are operated by widebodies.

The KSA - Abudhabi market is going rapidly (it has doubled in the last 3 years). It is driven mainly by transit passengers connecting at AUH, the O&D market isn't that big.

To give you an idea of numbers, there are 30,000 annual AUH pax from Eastern Province. DXB is around 90,000. All other pax are connecting.

As of the summer schedule next year, Etihad increases their AUH-DMM schedule to 9 weekly  Smile
