Hey guys,
Question: What is Aeropostal playing?
Look at this promotion that appeared today on the most important Colombian newspaper:

Big version: Width: 561 Height: 105 File size: 24kb


It is impossible to be profitable with those prices, right?

We discussed this topic before on some other thread, and they seem to be having some problems attracting Colombian passengers and trying to get them by subsidizing some part of the fare, is that it?

US$218 round trip in this season Colombia -USA... is out of question.. don't you think?

They probably only have a very limited amount of seats at those low prices. Half of the deal is still to attract the potential customer, once you got him with you, it's relatively easy to sell a ticket.

Funny is, customers always run after the cheapest but don't thik about what they get for. Once they run into a product, they are annoyed with, they start to cry outloud after "customer protection etc..." With AV you've got a great airline in Colombia, probably giving a hard time to Aeropostal. So all Aeropostal can do is dumping the prices. I don't know much about them, maybe they are worth a chance. Still, if I am short of time (and sometimes nerves as well) my choice would definitely be Avianca. Here I know, I get more than a simple transport and it probably won't be that much more expensive either, if I look for a ticket somewhat in advance.

Yes, I forgot this possibility, but anyway is actually the same rate that CCS-MDE.. extremely cheap for MIA-MDE or BOG

No they don't ! They need have to improve a lot and, obviously, they don't work on it. I am not even sure they know they need to improve.

Anyway I will not try to check their evolution as for me it is now: “NO MORE VH”. This will complicate my routings if I have to go back to POS, but never mind. And I will make sure this message reaches all my colleagues travelling here. In fact I have discussed that in the office, and VH horror stories have flourished. The worst was a 7 hours delay for a CCS-CUR flight (172 miles!)."



Avoid 777 with 3-4-3 config in Y ! They are real sardine cans. (AF/KL for example)

Is Aeropostal really that unreliable? That must be quite something. The only time I flew Aeropostal was back in 1987 (so thus it was then LAV and a different company altogether) from POS to PMV and Puerto Ordaz and return from PMV on a school trip to Venezuela. On my return to POS they left my luggage behind - I had to wait 3 days for them to bring it over. That is quite upsetting for a teenager - after all it was the first time I had travelled apart from my parents and family.

Conviasa also serves POS from CCS although it does so less often than VH.

On a related Aerpostal note, and quite a surprising move, starting in November, they are ending MIA-MAR and increasing MIA-VLN. MIA-CCS will stay at 1x daily, and MIA-VLN will be 11x weekly. I have a feeling that the three days that MIA-VLN does not operate will be when the announced but yet-to-start MIA-PMV route will.

That is odd. The GRS still shows their daily flight from Maracaibo to Miami and v.v. all through December till saturday 30th. Then flights stop.
They do change departure times though.
Miami to Maracaibo now leaves at 10:30 and the return leg departs Maracaibo at 15:30.

Who knows what will they end up doing !! Mr. Ramiz is as unpredictable as weather !!

In GDS it is only bookable for a few weeks at the end of December, at least in Amadeus.

Cat. 1 status never affected AA's plan to fly to Valencia, since AA was under no restrictions. I have not heard about AA planning to launch MIA-VLN soon, but when they start expanding again internationally, I do think VLN will be a prime candiate.

I'm referring to the denial of the SJU-PMV flights by the Venezuelan government which was based on the CAT II status issue, remember? Didn't that rejection cause AA to halt its VLN plans?

That was much more recent. AA originally planned to begin MIA-VLN, and announced it, on 1 November 2002. It was not until late 2005 that the Venezuelan government began to take (and rightfully so) a reciprocal stance against US carriers.

The schedule to MIA is indeed strange:

MAR stopped, operates only 1x daily 14.-23.12. and 26. - 30.12.
CCS increases to 2 daily between 15. and 30.12.06
VLN increases to 11 weekly until 13.12. and goes back to daily later.

In addition there are some days without operation between 24 and 26 from some cities.

From 1st Jan on it is simple:
1x daily CCS
1x daily VLN

I don't know about this proces, but I paid twice the amount for a ticket in AV BOG-MIA-BOG for december. I rather pay U$400 for a nonstop trip instead of adding more than 2 hrs to my trip (besides, I get to add FF).

Does anyone know how much time you get in CCS before the MIA flight leaves??

Just lead-in prices, designed to attract, small in number, etc.

You can see it on a poster in Miami:

BOGOTA - $1*.

Will be loss-leading on those, but would in theory make up for it with more seats being filled at higher prices.

That is actually very good.. did you purchase it a long time ago? Prices in economy for december to BOG starts in the mid US$600 in AA, DL, CO, AV or LA (the good ones  Wink ) if you are lucky to find one...

I know. That was almsot 2 months ago. A few days ago there was an article on EL TIEMPO in which it said that ALL economic tickets were gone., and most of Y class tickets too. All airlines flyingt between colombia and the USA are having terrific results for the high season. Also said that Avianca requested 116 extra flights for the season (I'm guessing domestic too).

I did a search on TACA for same dates of my trip and they went up to U$550,oo IIRC. Not very exciting for a 6hrs+ trip, that for U$ 100 more, becomes a 3.5 hrs nonstop trip.
