Swiss International Airlines made a net profit of CHF 174 millions (€ 110; $ 137.5 mi) in the first nine months of this year. This is a really good result in comparison to the loss they still had last year. I now understand why LH allows them to expand their fleet with: 2 A 332, 1-3 A 343; 2 A 321, 1 A 320.

This is terrific news.

Swiss deserved a fighting chance...and it looks like, with the help of LH and Star Alliance, they are starting to round the corner.

Very good news. It´s good that the OA situation didn´t repeat here. I always trusted LX.

The A343 are not yet confirmed, right? it's still only a rumour that they could take over AUA or AC Airbuses if i am not mistaken..

According to this thread:
Swiss To Lease 2 A343 From Austrian
at least one 343 from AC is confirmed and should come in May/June to SRTechnics (look specifically at reply 49).

I flew Swiss long-haul 4 times over the last month, including in C. The service was excellent. The IFE/AVOD was terrible and very hard to use. I hope they get a better system. I also hope the restart their THR flight soon.

Did you fly the 332 or/and the 343? The 343 has the newer and better IFE (AVOD also in economy) than the 332.

ZRH: I flew on both. 343 was in C class and the IFE was difficult to use.

Thanks for information. I am not a IFE specialist because I almost don't use it besides the airshow. I don't like to watch movies on these tiny screens (at home I have a video projector Big grin ). On board I prefer to read a book.

Oh yeah I would love to see them flying again to THR.

Finally they are making really money! It was time, because the flights are always full, and if they wouldn't made any money now, I would see black for them.

Hope they will hold they're profit in the 4Q and next year

Oh yes, they had an overall seat load factor of 84.5 % two weeks ago. This is amazing.

For some reason, the J class bed seat on Swiss has received a lot of criticism, IFE is just one part of the problem. The other problem is that they while they have a fairly consistent Economy product, their J product is not (no beds on the 332s, only on the 343s). However, from what I'm hearing about the beds, the seat product may be a better alternative...don't know for sure.

I'd be curious to know what others on this forum who have flown both say about the difference between the aircraft. While this might be off topic, it bears to the reason why LX is doing well. The answer LH management is probably not far from the mark.

No matter, it's really good to hear that Swiss is doing well. I have a great fondness for Swiss (and a lot of the people that went there from Swissair), so while there are some issues with the product, as long as they make money...the Swiss should be proud.

I know both. The 343 are fare better. They are angled lie flat seats like many others have in business. I don't know why people complain. I always slept perfect in them. I heard that the 332 should be refitted with all new business seats but I don't know when.

I've read comments about people complaining that they were constantly slipping when in the flat position due to the light angled position, something that I somehow find hard to belive (probably because I am known to be able to sleep anywhere and in any given position Big grin )

From what I've heard and read, the A332 will be refitted with new seats, but not with the same ones that are found on the A343. If I'm correct, someone on this site even mentioned something once about LX introducing a whole new Business Class product, once the A332 were refitted.

LH management seems to have done well for LX. Hope the brand stays rather than merge into LH.

Any new destinations in the works over at LX?

There has been a slight delay with the introduction of the new seats. LX had already more or less decided on a model but when they conducted seat tests with their upper tier frequent flyers, response was not all that good. Most people complained that while the new seat offered more privacy and comfort, they felt as though they were lying in a coffin! Refurbishment is to begin in the second half of 2007. LX is currently still assessing other options but if they can't find a better solution by next year, they will install the same seats on the A. 330 as they have on the A. 340.
