Continental has done an amazing job in updating its fleet. They still have a large number of 737-800s, 737-900s and, now, 757-300s on order for operation primarily in North America. While I understand that the airline intends to keep growing, will the delivery of the new aircraft result in the beginning of the phase out of CO's MD-80 fleet. They have quite a few "older" MD-80s, including those acquired second-hand from Air Cal, Muse Air, Hawaiian, and those orginally operated by their subsidiary, NY Air - many are or will be 20 years old shortly. Any information on CO's plans for its MD-80 fleet?

According to a buddy of mine at CO, they are starting to retire them at a rate of about 4 a year. Replacements are the new 737-800's, bu the aircraft is generally still the backbone of it's fleet.

CO is slowly replacing its MD-80's with 738's. They are going to be an airline of only 4 fleet types:

1. 737 (-500, -700, -800, -900)
2. 757 (-200, -300)
3. 767 (-200, -400)
4. 777 (-200)

With respect to the four types, what about the 737-300's? Does anyone know any plans that CO has with these?

Continental will probaly keep then for a while. They still are the backbone of the COA Fleet. They updated their interiors and everything a while back.
