Came across this link on you tube of what looks to be a Virgin A340-600 en route from Heathrow to New York being told to land at Halifax whilst being escorted by a F18 does anyone know when this happened and why it was told to land in Halifax,never heard any news of this in UK Thanks

There was a VS flight lat year that accidentally put its transponder on the frequency for 'hijacked', and it was escorted into Halifax as a precaution.

There was a problem with it, only on that one particular a/c. From what I heard it had to be removed and sent to the manufacturer for testing. Never heard what was wrong with it.

how do you explain that to your passengers?

"uhhh ladies and gentleman if you look out the left side of the aircraft, you'll notice we have a friendly wingman escorting us to Halifax because I set the wrong Squawk code on the transponder. We hope you enjoy the rest of the flight thanks for flying Virgin Atlantic."

From an a.netters point of view those pax were lucky to get an air-air view of a CF-18 Big grin
