Technically, "early summer" would begin at June 21st, so I suppose you could call this mid-summer. What's a month?  Wink

I thought rollout was earlier than that. Has it slipped?

IIRC, roll out will be in July with first flight in August (2007.)

OMG, was it because of the fuselage barrels issues? How delayed is the 787 now? Is this the second, or third delay Boeing has denied???

Sorry, couldn't resist - saw the thread steering in that direction and figured I'd put in some of the more common comments we've seen of late.

I have a trip to Seattle tentatively planned for mid-August 2007, and the Boeing tour is for sure going to be one of my stops... I'll have to remember to book that one early!

Actually, I heard that Boeing doesn't know as much about CFRP as they thought they did, and has decided to shelve the project. Instead of delivering a 787, they've worked out an arrangement with AA and DL in which every firm order for the 787 will be substituted with a gently used MD-80, outfitted with auxiliary fuel tanks (taking up the last half of the cabin -- eh, you didn't want to sit there anyway) and reengined to operate off a single UDF. In return, AA and DL are liquidated as functioning airlines and the 787 deposits are returned to AA/DL shareholders (or creditors, in the event that one of the airlines happens to be operating under Ch. 11). Boeing claims the so-called 7MD87 is "meeting performance guarantees." You can tell they're making good progress:

Heh heh, I forgot that one. Of course the answer is "yes, we'll take more of them, thank you very much."

Truth is commonly stranger than fiction.
