Obviously, this is just speculation, but not in the near future. They seem fairly content with the 777 as its long haul, high capacity vehicle. I don't see AA getting the 744. And if they ever decided to get the 747, it would be AFTER Boeing discontinued the -400 and created a new variant.

I agree with Modesto...the odds are very low. AA has pretty much been committed to a two engine plane fleet since they began retiring the DC10's./ I actually believe this was a stated policy of thr Board. maybe someone at AA in DFW can confirm. Anyway, I highly doubt that you will see a 744 or a 74X in AA colors anytime soon, if ever.

coming from AA's hometown(DFW) there is definately a lot news about them but nothing has ever come up about the 747 in The Dallas Morning News. If AA does, they will wait untill the 747NG's are out, and before AA introduced ORD-NRT, they were speculating about ordering a couple of the 400's, but they never did. AA has a tendency of waiting and has paid off for them, AA will definately wait and see what Airbus and Boeing have to offer before they make a final decision, However, if Delta orders 747's, it will be almost certain that you will see AA 747's since American and Delta have basically identicle fleets, AA is happy with the 777's right now, the bottom line-AA will wait to see what the manufacturers have to offer, and what their competitors do.
