What is that thing under the red cover above the cockpit window of the Captains side?

It say's something to do with glass on it.

It says "do not handle combiner glass" - and my understanding is that combiner glass is used to display images in heads up displays.

This is a test aircraft. Perhaps only one head-up display is installed.
AFAIK the big box behind (respectively seen from behind, like in this photo, in front of) the display belongs to it. This box isn't to see on other photos of the A380 flight deck.

What´s that gotto do with 380´s HUD? This ATW story is the same topic you send to "A vs B", how many more are you gonna put in, on every A380 thread?
