Canadian holiday airline Air Maestro today announced year-round service between Fort Lauderdale and Quebec City, starting 18 December 2006:

They will be the second airline on the route, joining Air Transat's seasonal 2x weekly A310 service. Fort Lauderdale is the only US city with mainline jet service to Quebec City, not a huge surprise considering the strong economic and cultural ties between Broward County and Quebec.

Never heard of that airline before, so I searched the web, and here it is for those who are/were like me:

Vacances Maestro will be operating a wet leased (not sure) Skyservice 757-200 and operating it from YQB to various southern destinations. Here is the schedule: http://www.vacances-maestro.com/fr/vols.php

Takeoffs are optional; landings are mandatory.

Yup, it's wet-leased. Look for Trans-Atlantic flights during the summer too. It will be interesting to see how this project does in the face of competition from Air Transat.

As usual, a lot of Canadian winter lift. Sunwing is also selling seats for Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando and St. Pete. Anyone know if the company will use its own planes for these trips ? I don't recall them anywhere in Florida last year.

My definition of cool ? Not trying so hard to be cool.
