The airport has been overwhelmed with activity in the last year. In addition to LCCs the facility host most CIS passenger and cargo flights so there is always an interesting variety of Russian aircraft.
The current international terminal will revert to domestic operations, while the current small domestic facility will be razed. The new international facility will be built along the lines of BOT (Build, Operate, Transfer) and the Turkish-Austrain TAV group is a favored bidder for the project.
In addition the airport is trying to attract cargo traffic over from IST, including luring over integrators such as DHL.
