AeroMexico (AM/AMX)
Toronto Added ---applied to the CTA for an amendment to their current license for the authority to add international scheduled service. The CTA has granted the application under the terms of the current air agreement between Mexico and Canada. AeroMexico plan to begin a daily 737-700 service just before Christmas period, but schedule details are not yet available.

This was talked about earlier in the year but it never happened but it finally looks like AM is back in YYZ. Good competition for AC and MX

This are great news!! Go MX and AM on the MEX-Canada battle!!! I read this week that after the US, Mexico is the 2nd most visited country choosen by Canadians same thing goes for more US people travelling to Canada than Mexico but that in 2 years will probably end and things will turn different.

I am very happy that AM is finally re-adding YYZ to its routemap. What I cannot understand is that, just like TIJ-NRT, MEX-YYZ is about to start imminently, but no announcements (let alone advertisements) have been yet made. I bet most travel agents are not aware of this new flight.

In any case, I hope AM will do well on this route. Too bad I was in Toronto already and have no plans to visit again soon.

Next flights: MEX-GRU (AM 77E), GRU-GIG (JJ A320), SDU-CGH (G3 73H), GRU-MEX (JJ A332).

I think you mean MX because IIRC AM doesn't have airbi'

Indeed. The Airbuses are MX's. MX is flying once daily MEX-YYZ-MEX with an A319.

AM's fleet is composed of MD-80s, 737s (-700 and -800s with blended winglets), 752s, 767ERs (-200s and one -300) and 772ERs.

Next flights: MEX-GRU (AM 77E), GRU-GIG (JJ A320), SDU-CGH (G3 73H), GRU-MEX (JJ A332).

Yea just like everyone said, it was probably MX...however AM did serve YYZ last year, once weekly (Saturdays i believe) CUN-YYZ-CUN doing charters on behalf of Sunwing vacations. They operated B737-700, however this will be daily sked...very excited...with Flyglobespan, Cubana IL-96, AM daily, the return of Canjet this week, and Caribbean Airlines, its gonna be fun spotting at YYZ over the next few weeks!

This is a bit of topic, but does AeroMexico even codeshare with Air Canada.

No, no codeshare. MX and AC used to have a codeshare and mileage accrual/redemption agreement which survived MX's separation from Star Alliance. However, the agreement was terminated in the first or second quarter of this year. Once AM enters the market, it will be a three-way competition between (i) the incumbent carrier AC (Star Alliance); (ii) MX (somehow aligned now with oneworld; and (iii) new entrant AM (SkyTeam).

Next flights: MEX-GRU (AM 77E), GRU-GIG (JJ A320), SDU-CGH (G3 73H), GRU-MEX (JJ A332).

May I ask what you mean by this? Is CanJet relaunching, or are you talking about their charters?

Sorry for getting off topic.

Hmmmmm, pondering here.
Are Mexican carriers catering to the Canadian tourist traffic, or buisness?
Is there any Mexican alive who is willing to travel to Canada in the winter? How does Mexican carriers stack up against Canadian carriers?

Hello Cowboy, welcome to a.net. I see you are fairly new, and I hope you will enjoy reading the threads and posting your comments and opinions.

I think most tourists would fly Air Transat and AC because of their non-stop flights to Mexican resorts. Or AM and MX's charter flights.

I am sure the number of Mexicans going to Canada during the cold season drops dramatically. Perhaps students going home and back to Canada and some businesspeople.

Dont forget AM will be offering winter trips to Edmonton this winter with the 737-700 as charters catered directly at Mexican tourists by a Mexican tour operator (the same one who offered the summer charters here). They get a full list of activity's to do and also get a 2 day trip to Jasper/Marmot basin. The summer flights were full and they expect the same for the winter.

Guess what???I dont like you either...

There will be many tourists interested in going to the Rockies for skiing but the total number of Mexican tourists to all of Canada vis-à-vis the summer tourists will definitely be lower. Maybe some will want to try the ice hotel in Quebec but probably not many.

Congratulations to AM on another new North America Route! I wish them the best of luck. Has anyone heard what other new routes they will be starting in the recent future other than the very important and vital MEX-TIJ-NRT-TIJ-MEX route and other's mentioned to ORD, DTW, SAT etc.?

Slightly off topic, what routes are AM utilizing the 738 on? I heard and read something a short time ago, they were going to replace the 752 on MEX-JFK-MEX and replace it with a 738. Is this true? Isn't that a significant step down since that's a high yield/load factor route?

I am not sure when DTW will be started. I hope soon.

As for JFK, AM is doing 3 daily flights, 2 with 752's and 1 with 738W so it is actually an upgrade. The problem will be when AM retires more 752's and goes down to 2x daily.

Eddie, thanks for the information. I always enjoy reading your postings and threads.
What other routes do you think they'll use the 738 on? LAX? SJO? SAL? BOG? How many 738s will they be getting?

Hey LACA773, thanks for the reply. How's all in Santa Monica?

AM promised a South American expansion in 2007 but nothing has yet been disclosed. As you know, at the moment AM only flies to LIM (737W), GRU (combo of 772ER and 762ERs) and SCL (762ERs and 763ER). I think in the short term will see the 738s in MTY, JFK and perhaps LAX only. If I am not mistaken, AM will only have 2 by the end of the year, with a few more coming later. In any case, it will not be a large subfleet... at least I think most pending deliveries are -700Ws. I am sure Ghost will be able to shed more light on this issue.

Does anyone know why AM operates BOS only 1x weekly? The aircraft arrives on a Friday and departs on a Sunday, so I imagine the 73G just sits around BOS all day on Saturdays.

LACA, Eddie Dude,

I believe Mexicana is adding their 3rd flight to JFK next April. They are doing extemely well there and Aeromexico has been cancelling flights and downgrading equipment. Maybe someone can confirm this.

Will Mexicana also start DTW service. I thought I read a thread on this ??

AM was not successful with daily flights (I blame it on the schedules and the lack of connectivity), so they are now only flying to BOS once weekly to reposition planes otherwise used for charters to CUN.

MX started this flight with a 752 and now they are sending 2 A318s because the 752 fleet is being retired. I am very glad they will add a third flight. As for AM, I am not sure when they stopped or will stop the third daily flight (usually they have done 2x daily with the third one being seasonal). Last time I checked, they were sending two 752s and one 738, which seems like very good capacity to me. As for flight cancellations, I am really not aware but maybe someone else can let us know. Based upon my experiences in MEX-JFK, I like AM a bit better, but that is a subjective opinion I guess.

MX is sending again their 752, but with the fleet shortage of the 752´s, it´s only a matter of time to see more buses and the routes to grow.
