I don't know if TAP would ever be interested in BOS again. It was a very low-yielding route (along with YYZ and YUL). There is a large Portuguese community in MA and RI, but most are Azorean, therefore SATA serves this VFR traffic much better than TAP. One-stop flights to LIS via the Azores are pointless because they compete with AF, BA, LH and other carriers that can offer competitive prices and better schedules.
I think TAP's decision to focus on Newark is smart. It's an area with a huge Portuguese community with most in that area being from the mainland. Also they're able to cater to business passangers flying to and from New York. YYZ, YUL, PDL, OAK, BOS are the other areas with large Portugues communities in North America. However, in these areas the Portuguese immigrants are mostly Azorean making SATA International the ideal choice.
If TAP were to launch additional service to North America I would say perhaps they would go for IAD, YYZ or ORD. These three airports are Star Alliance hubs that could give TAP passangers more access to North American cities. However, TAP does not have enough long-haul jets and they're more interested in expanding service to Brazil and Africa above all else.

I agree with you, but im surprised about TP especially because of the large portugese communites in MA and RI, but i didn't know it was a majority of azorean's. If any thing AZ should be looking of flying into PVD, huge italian community. Actually Johnston, RI has the largest italian population per square mile in the US.
