Southwest To Add DTW/DEN-MCO

Service starts the 20th of December. Doesn't list the flight times yet.

I read it as new DTW-MCO service and an additional non-stop (as in frequency) DEN-MCO, which they already fly.

I could be wrong.

I would assume so. There's already 12x daily flights between the two cities on 3 carriers.

Good point CentPIT, WN just started DTW-BWI a month and a half ago. With 4 gates at Metro and 20 daily flights, WN could more than double their schedule real quickly if they smell the blood...

Needless to say, with service to only 5 cities currently (BWI, MDW, BNA, PHX and STL) + upcoming MCO, there's lots that WN could do from Detroit. I could easily see LAS, DEN, PHL, HOU (all top-growth stations for WN) and maybe PVD, OAK and FLL...

And who knows, maybe MSP is rapidly moving up the "Where-2-Next" list in DAL!

I agree! I think DTW-Flordia is Def. a market WN is going to be expanding.

Actually from what I heard today one of the biggest reason for MCO-DTW is because we saw that Spirit is making lots of money on that route...

Well, okay, but it isn't what the article says, and DEN-DTW does not appear, as a non-stop, on the Southwest route map..

DTW-MCO is there as a non-stop.

We? Do you keep switching back and forth between OO and WN, because last week you said "we" in regards to Skywest.

WN is adding DTW service to compete with AirTran (BWI and now MCO), not necessarily NW. NW isn't as weak as everyone makes them out to be.

Adding a single daily flight on DTW-MCO should be easy to fill, but yields are already extremly low.

WN is looking to battle AirTran and Spirit, this isn't a strike against NW.

Whoa, I didn't realize that AirTran pulled out of DTW-BWI, that sure didn't take long. As soon as WN announced service, someone had to blink. There was no way the route could support double the existing frequencies with AirTran & WN adding service. This goes to show that WN is attempting to defend their turf.
