Why would AA choose to use CRTs instead of LCDs, besides price? Hardly any new aircraft are equipped with CRTs anymore, and in the case of widebodies, projectors are now rarely used on new aircraft. Even some mid-1990s aircraft have LCDs, such as Delta's MD-90s.

I would think that the weight savings of going LCD vs. CRT (even though you need more of them), lower electrical current requirements/heat gerenation and less frequent service intervals (for the LCD panels at least; perhaps the "flip down" mechanism is a service issue) would have steered a decision.
