Hi,

I took off from EWR at around 7:15 PM yesterday (Thursday Nov 2nd). I believe we used Rwy 04L. I was seated on the right side of the aircraft. As soon as we took off I saw what I am reasonably sure was a UA757 (it was night already.. so i could be wrong about the airline) sitting past the end of 04R surrounded by fire trucks and police cars with their lights flashing. Anyone know what that was about?

EWR has had it's share of troubles this week.

Also, did you notice, on the WCBS story (linked above) that the photo on the page is a 767 but noted as a 757?

Supid a** news people.

They are having a bad week. With the busiest travel days coming up let's hope their luck improves. Kinda glad I'm flying into LGA on 11/21 rather than EWR (though LGA probably won't be much better).

I was on UA 95 last night which was EWR - SFO on the 757 which was involved in the incident.

While waiting for the aircraft to come in, we were told that the 'aircraft is on the ground but we don't know when it will get to the gate.' That was interesting. When the aircraft made it to the gate, the passengers didn't come out for half an hour. Apparently But what was weird was that there were about 5-6 police vehicles with their lights flashing on the the left side of the aircraft but on the right side the ground crew was doing their task of unloading bags, etc.

I was talking to some of the people as they got off and they said that they hadn't been told anything. Infact one of the passengers wife called telling him that his plane was on TV that they came to know that there was a 'suspicious person' onboard.

It was a long flight back for me.

There were 10 fire trucks and police cars on the runway and they taxied us with the police cars following us to the gate,"

If they thought there was a bomb on the plane why would they go to the gate? Shouldn't they go to a remote part of the airport and deplane there? Also, what are the polce cars for? If the deplaned with an airbridge how are the police on the other side of the aircraft going to be of any use?

I think that the aircraft was on the ground for a while before it even taxied to the gate. Perhaps after it was asserted that there was no bomb threat the aircraft was allowed to come to the gate.

I'm not sure how the police on the gound helps but there were several FBI type suited people waiting at the gate for the aircraft to get there. I think that they went onboard before any of the passengers came out.

This had to be a suspicious person on board threat and not a bomb threat other wise the passengers would have been evacuated right away. The way the events described played out, I would bet the FBI thought there was a fugitive on board and made the plane wait so the FBI could assemble backup. The police being there in case someone jumped out one of the emergency exit doors.

True, but I think they could have done a better job. Flying SFO-EWR with a 757 on United 96 is too close for me, creeps me out.

Here we go again. Not a very good week for EWR but things come in cycles. I was spotting/shopping near there and no problems. I had a blast.

I agree. How about returning to the original SFO-EWR flight numbers. Flight 35 from EWR-SFO and Flight 34 from SFO-EWR. I was a monthly commuter on those flights after my parents split up.

You think it creeps you out when you're on a flight with a number close to 93. How about working there and doing a 757 flight, from Gate 17 (93's dep. gate), to SFO?
