Tarom is getting ready to take delivery of its first ever A318 around Nov 15, 2006. Here are the very first couple of pictures with the brand new baby-bus wearing a slightly modified Tarom livery during flight tests @ Hamburg.

Nice ! However, I am surprised that they painted the long form of their name on the aircraft. Not really necessary, IMO.

Do you know on what routes they'll be used on ?

BTW, welcome on my RU list !

Those engines look so huge on an A318!  Wink

One question! Are these "baby-buses" in a single class or two-class config?

Can somebody remind me what the controversy was with these A318's ordered by tarom?

Did they not order 5 of them?

Looks pretty good BTW.

As far as I know front runners are Barcelona, Amsterdam, Lisbon, Valencia (first quarter 2007 ?) Copenhagen, Zurich, Berlin (last quarter 2007 ?) all new routes to be open by Tarom.

If I remember well the config will be a two class 12+Y94 for a total of 106 seats while the selected engines seem to be the CFM 56-5B developing 98kN

They are simply "mult frumos". Now when will they rig up those babies to fly back to ORD or JFK?

If you know, Tarom uses only Boeing jets. They bought a couple of 737s NGs to "suck up to Americans" and enter NATO. Now Romania wants to enter in the EU, so they have to "suck up" to the Europeans by buying Airbus. I think their fleet doesn't make sense, but then again, I'm not an aviation analyst. I have to say, I do like the A318 in Tarom colors.

That was a good try Usdcaguy. You can say "arata foarte frumos", which means "it [the airplane] looks very beautiful (or nice)".

You can also say "Arata foarte frumoase", which means "they [the airplaneS] look very beautiful (or nice"

Cheers,

Vio

Not a chance with the "babies" although a very recent political rumor - upcoming elections !!!! - out of Bucharest says that after a three year-long conservation, the two existing A310-324 will be send down to Toulouse for D-check and refurbishment. It could take Tarom about 11 months and an estimated 48 million Euros in costs to bring those old horses back to life.

But hey who knows if this plan becomes reality, by next October, Chicago, Montreal, New York, Bangock, Beijing, New Dehli could be back on Tarom's network!!!

Since Delta Air Lines already announced starting JFK-OTP in 2007, perhaps Tarom could bring back its former OTP-ORD via YUL or/and OTP/TSR-YUL/ORD.

IIRC the A310s have already been sold. Also, the refurb cost sounds quite unrealistic. BTW, DL will start JFK-OTP soon, so that makes it even less likely. If they want to go ahead, get some A332s, or later 788s.

Never heard of that !!! To whom were they sold and when, can you fill us up a bit on that?

Quoting A342 (Reply 9):

Well I guess it depends on the range of refurbishment scale contemplated by Tarom. It may be a very comprehensive one including avionics updates, cabin configuration, leather seats, in seats state of the art entertainment system, etc.

By comparison have a look at their new A318's whistles and bells
