After the AUA group took over Lauda Air, his first airline he founded, he started up another airline about 2 years ago I think, called Niki!. A low-cost airline which is working together with Air Berlin based in VIE if I'm not mistaken. And yes, he is still active as a pilot, chief pilot even I think.

Well he has good taste in aircraft and cars!!Viva Ferrari 312T-312T2.
If not for Big AL at the Nurburgring in 1976 Niki would no longer be with us.
He also likes anything Boeing.
I met him once at an F1 race.

Even when it has been said before - YES from time to time his name appears in the Flight Information on the Captains seat of his HG Airbusses. I think he picks up most of his Jets from Toulouse.
I always wondered that he is still allowed to fly Passengers with his healthy problems...he has 3 kidneys (correct translation?)

In Austrai he seems to get a lot of bad mouthing for criticizing the way AUA is handled.
But he is a great entrepreneur, confirmed airline-pilot,investing his own money in his airlines (Flyniki ) and knows what he is talking about. I have a tremendous respect for the man !! Even if some of the media-appearances might look irritating for AUA supporters,he has done a lot of great things for Austrian aviation.
One should not forget that he spend many hours in flight-simulators, prooving to Boeing that the 767 accident of a Lauda Air 767 in Thailand, where during inflight reverse-thrust was enabled, was not a pilot's fault!
So whoever is critizising the man, should first demonstrate that he can de better than him !
To me he is Austria's great ambassador !

In deed he flew me three weeks ago the second time from ZRH to VIE in one of his A321.
Happened already in September to me first time, was boarding the plane, suddenly was there Mr. Lauda in the cockpit door to welcome the pax on board.
