Airbus To Cut Number Of Suppliers To 500 From 3,000

PARIS (AP)--Airbus plans to cut the number of its suppliers by more than 80% as part of its restructuring program, a spokeswoman confirmed Monday, but the European aircraft maker gave no further details of the planned cuts.

The number of suppliers will be reduced "from 3,000 to 500," Airbus spokeswoman Marcella Muratore said.

No further information was available on which suppliers would be dropped or the timetable for the cuts, she said.

Ouch!

One would have thought that they would have secured their XWB launch aid (in some form) before dropping this little bomb.

I don't know that it's quite as drastic as it seems. Look at what Boeing did. They simply simply selected a few primes and let them deal with the shunted smaller suppliers. Perhaps that is what Airbus has in mind.

As usual, you are spot on, my friend. An Engine Alliance equipped A380 is approximately 40% "Made in the USA", according to FedEx's website.
