Qatar Airways has unveiled the list of new cities to be launched in 2007.
*Dar es Salaam (already announced)
*Ho Chi Minh
*Unnamed Northern European city
*Unnamed Eastern European city - 1st for the airline
However, due to the aircraft deliveries, CEO Akbar Al Baker is cautioned about it and blames "protracted negotiations" with rival planemakers Airbus and Boeing Co. for the carrier's failure to meet its target of opening 10 new routes each year.
Qatar Airways currently serve Houston, Washington, New York, Newark as codeshare, operated by Lufthansa.

Quoting Yirina77 (Reply 1): Anybody has some idea about eastern european city? There was rumours about Bucharest before, as I remember...?
As mention in my other post in the following thread; QR is looking at ZAG, BUD and WAW. I would expect BUD to be highest on the list. Qatar: Premium Classes On A346 (by KHI747 Nov 6 2006 in Civil Aviation)
Wouldn't happen to be DUB would it? After EI and GF launched services from the Middle East to Dublin last year, both routes to DXB and BAH have been extremely sucessfull and with a reputation like QR's (5star) they would be bound to succeed in such an under served market.

According to Al-Sharq Qatari newspaper:
Sorry, the article is in Arabic. Basically, Qatar Airways and the Swiss civil aviation authority have amended an exisiting air treating allowing the carrier up to 14 weekly flights and additional cargo flights to any destination(s) in Switzerland.
Also, there was an agreement for flights to the USA via Switzerland. This article can be combined with other similar threads but it is worth mentioning it in a new thread.
So, can we be looking at flights to USA via Zurich maybe?
I'm pretty sure that any DOH-DPS will be served as a tag on to some other destination, most likely SIN, or alternatively KUL or CGK. QR would be the first Middle Eastern carrier into DPS, although EK have previously looked into serving DPS, but have finally decided to add 3 additional frequencies to CGK instead because of the lack of premium traffic at DPS.
It is interersting to see, though, that QR somehow has made Cebu (CEB) work out well for them. In fact, the route seems to be going so well that QR has recently started nonstop DOH-CEB operations, dropping the initial stopover in SIN. Maybe QR is looking at a repeat of the Cebu success story at Bali?

With Emirates dominating the Lagos to Middle East routes with cheap fares, daily flights, great service and easy connections to other Middle Eastern Cities, I do not know if Qatar Airways will find Lagos worthwhile.
It takes knowledge to make a career. It takes wisdom to live a life.
Copenhagen Airport have publically annonced that they are expecting to reveal a new longhaul destination within two or three weeks. We know from previous threads that US is not commencing services to CPH, nor is DL inaugurating JFK-CPH (not for 2007 anyway). So this new longhaul service is probably not to North America.
