Effective immediately Pulkovo Airlines of St. Petersburg will change its name to Rossiya-Russian Airlines as it merged with the state owned carrier Rossiya.
The website also have a new look, but not really a big changes.

It's really strange because Pulkovo was much bigger than Rossiya. Too bad to see Pulkovo go. Also to me it is a bit unclear what the Russian state's involvement in this case is.

This was actually in progress for about half a year. Rossiya was mainly unknown because it was flying out of Moscow mainly (Vnukovo) and doing mostly domestic flights whereas Pulkovo, as the main carrier of St Petersburg had quite a good presence in Europe and it's TU154's were (and still are) a common sight on many spotters' slides.
Rossiya by the way is also the provider of airplanes for President Putin. (who is also of St Petersburg descent).
What will happen to the fleet is a big unknown. At some point there was an order for AN148's... recently there was the announcement about E-Jets but as with everything in Russia... some time will pass before it will happen.
THere are 7x 735's ex-EI and leased by Bouillion and DEBIS to FV. Those birds are maintained by LH.
Rossiya also had a bunch of TU-204-100's so it remains to be seen if they will get some western schedules. Interesting from a spotting point of view but quite cramped from a passenger point of view. What is sad though is that the TU134's are definately on the way out and that's a bummer because I love flying them. They are steady as a brick., yet smooth as on ice and to top it all off... whenever one takes off your intestins shake...Major plus in my book
who decided that a Horizon should be HORIZONtal???

Quoting PavlovsDog (Reply 6): Is there a route map on their site? I'd like to see their network.
So far no map, but they just have a list of cities served.
I highly doubt that re-branding together into Rossiya is a way to cover up the name "Pulkovo", this process has been going on for well over a year, and thus has nothing to do with the recent, unfortunate Pulkovo crash.
Rossiya definitely has quite a lot of potential. Their Tu-204s can be used on European routes, and the Tu-154s are still going strong. For know, I think that we just have to wait it out and see what they will do. Expansion should follow only after they have firmly established themselves, which I think will take a few months.

There is no such a thing as a bad airline or airplane. If it flies in the skies, I'm on it.

Does Pulkovo still fly any Tu-154s into LHR? Since last year, all I've seen is 737-500s. I always loved seing their Tu-154s (I love Russian planes anyway), and would love seeing another one again! Or is it all 735s from now on?
Will the new, merged airline (Rossiya) continue to fly into LHR, as Pulkovo now does? If so, will it still use 735s or start using some Russian type again?
I miss the Tu-154s! These (and other Russian types) were what made LHR special for me as a photographer!
