I think Royal Jordanian operated some 747-200's. Is it true? What were the destinations they flew? One more question. Were they painted in the old red/brown livery of the current scheme?

For some reason, I can picture this RJ 742.... not sure why, but I am still trying to find where I pick that up from....

I am working on it....

Yes they did, my dad used to fly Royal Jordanian jumbos to Montreal(and also Chicago) on first class...in the 80's and early 90's he said they were excellent. he would from Kuwait via Amman(we used to live there!).

Yes they did, but not in the current scheme. Operated under "ALIA-Royal Jordanian Airlines".

Just a slight correction to FLY777UAL. Actually RJ did operate at least one 747-200 in the current scheme. I've got a print taken in Geneva mid 80s just by luck since I believe it to be very short lived.

Actually they did fly a 742 from LAX-Amsterdam-Amman in the mid '80's as previously mentioned-Alia Royal Jordanian. Not sure how long that route lasted, when they added and dropped LAX (I saw it in 1986 at the Tom Bradly Terminal there)...I also DO remember a much more colorful livery almost solid golds and burgundys with no white anywhere.

Hi!

ALIA had infact 2 new B. 747-2D3B's, JY-AFA and AFB, the only place you could see in Europe those 747's was in AMS, I was lucky enough to see both there and I remember seeing them with the old ALIA livery. After that ALIA had an identity crisis finding a new livery because I know that before they stopped in the current one they changed almost every year!
Regards!

Actually Royal Jordanian operated their Jumbos (3) in 3 liveries! The old Alia, the 80s Alia (red bottom, very nice) and the current one (one of the nicest liveries ever to be painted to a 747).

CV990, those Alia 74's were also regular visitors to LHR, albeit the L1011's were a more familiar sight.

I recall seeing a 742 in new colors in Europe (Zurich) in the early 90's in the "new" grey, non-Alia scheme.

As a matter of fact I bought a Schabak 747-200 in the new colors as well.

Hi Shankly!

You might be right regarding that!!! But I have some clues to say that about AMS and the ALIA 747's because when I first visited LHR was in 1980, and at that time I'm sure ALIA was not operating yet the L1011-500 ( they received their first ones from 12/81 on ) so I still recall seeing in LHR the B. 707, but I truly accept that after that they probably used the 747's mixed with the L1011-500's!
Regards!

Did Alia operate 747-211B that eventually made its way to British Caledonian and then British Airways ? If so the -211B is in the hands of Philippine Airlines right now.
