I just have a couple of questions:
1) For those of you who live in Detroit, Minneapolis/St.Paul, or Memphis - do you see much adverstising for NW in the papers or on television?
2) Is there a reason that Northwest does not adverstise nearly as much as other airlines, even though they have some great things to boast about (ontime performance, new World Business Class, great e-technologies etc etc)?

Yes, you see Northwest's logo quite often here in the Twin Cities in the form of advertising, promotion and publicity. They are a huge presence in the local corporate landscape.

Here in Memphis we get NW ads. Print ads in the paper advertising specials, a few billboards around town, and a few tv spots. The spot they show the most is the one that promotes the new bank of flights they just ordered. I would say that they get more coverage than any other airline here, by far.

I see Northwest billboards a lot here in the Detroit Area...they also sponsor lots of corporate things...plus large full page ads in the paper sometimes.

I see they do in the hubs. But, I would argue it is more important to adverstise in the spoke cities where they are less know. Particulary in the Northeast.

What are you talking about how "Northwest does not adverstise nearly as much as other airlines" when all I see for US Airways @ PHL here is an ad for envoy class, and listed as sponsors for fundraisers on the backs of T-shirts.

NW always has an ad in Time Magazine for their ConnectFirst and BizFlex services...I've also seen that ad in Newsweek, Sports Illustrated, and Business Week. You can find daily advertisements in the Star Tribune and the Pioneer Press, the major newspapers here too.
I like the new commercials advertising their new World Business Class services, which run here regularly during prime time TV as well as during a few football games, college and pro. Has anyone else seen these? I'm wondering if this is a national campaign or just local. Thanks...

I have not seen any adds for Northwest on television for a while . the last one I saw was about 6months ago for connect first. The man was walking thru the airport being paged by his parents and how proud they were to have a member of their family sitting in first class. Pretty humorous.
Anyway, I think that Northwest does alot of their TV adds locally only. It would be nice to see them on CNN or MSNBC.

NWA has an ad in USA Today that is placed in the upper right hand corner of the Money section first page(section B) daily. Leave it to USA Today to sell advertising on the first page. USA Todays are found in just about every hotel nationwide plus in just about every airport throughout the US. Personally, I think the add is kind of cheesy, but they have been running it for some time, so someone must think it is working.

I too have always wondered why Northwest Airlines has never heavily advertised on TV like AA, UA and DL. I mean, NW is the fourth largest airline, right? You'd think that NW would be more of a household name. I personally know several people here in the NY area that said they honestly "never heard" of Northwest! It HAS to be because of the lack of TV spots.
So, I wonder why NW hasn't taken to heavy television advertising yet?

I agree with SEVEN_FIFTY7
Alot of people in the NE have never heard of Northwest. Funny seeings how NW flies tons out of Boston (DTW, MSP, MEM, AMS)
Newark (DTW, MSP, MEM, AMS)
Kennedy (DTW, MSP, AMS, NRT)
LaGuardia (DTW, MSP, MEM)
BWI (DTW, MSP)
DCA- National (DTW, MSP, MEM)
Dulles (DTW, MSP, AMS)
lots of NW DC9s, A320s, 757, DC10s, 747-400s flying around the North EAST and yet still many don't know.
TV would do it....not to mention bring to light all the great things about Northwest Airlines.

I have lived in Memphis for 12 years and I have always seen NWA advertisements. Generally you can find one in a newspaper or on the radio. NWA does a lot of sponsoring in Memphis for big events like Memphis In May or our local sports teams like the Memphis Redbirds.

I know this isnt related to NW but DL has been using lots of advertisements lately, nearly every magazine I have opened up there is one of those DL ads where they have the luggage tag that has fly _____ and they have something corny written in on the line.

I don't think I've ever seen a NW television ad... Living my life in Portland and L.A., I can't remember seeing one. I've seen plenty from UA, AA, DL, and southwest, but none from NW or CO, come to think of it...
