The Amazing Race Asia (TARA) premiered worldwide last night on AXN. It is the franchise of the very popular and award winning The Amazing Race series which is now in it's 10th installment. The race started in my beautiful hometown, Kuala Lumpur Malaysia and it was hosted by a Hong Kongese model/actor, Allan Wu. There are 10 teams from 8 Asian countries. They will be racing worldwide, not only in Asia, for the ultimate prize of USD 100,000 (why not USD 1,000,000 like the US version???)
Here are the interesting aviation related facts about the first race of Asia's very own The Amazing Race:
Unlike the tradition of running like mad to get a cab to the airport and fly thousand of miles away from the starting point, the first race only concentrated around Kuala Lumpur. No airport and no plane involved.
The show received a lot of sponsorship and Air Asia is sort of like the official carrier for the race. I am wondering, out of so many world class airlines in Asia, why AK? This show is being broadcasts worldwide, received hyped promotion on AXN channel and AK is sponsoring it? Why CX, SQ or TG didn't interested in becomming a sponsor (each of the carrier's national participate in the race)?
There's a same kind of show in Malaysia called "Explorace" and it was sponsored untimately by Malaysia Airlines. I guess that's why MH didn't interested in sponsoring TARA.
Then, ... no more. Only 3 aviation facts in the first race.
I found the race is quite unique as the participants are from different countries. They referred each other based on their nationalities. So there's the Indonesian brothers, the Malaysian team 1, the Malaysian team 2 and such. My favourite is the beautiful Aubrey and Jaq of the Philippines. I found them very competitive yet fun and bubbly.
Anyway, lets hope for more flying and airport running actions in the next upcoming races.

I actually saw them in action when I was travelling to ... (don't want to ruin it), but I wish they showed it in the States, I can't get enough of the Amazing Race

Quoting 9MMAR (Thread starter): Why CX, SQ or TG didn't interested in becomming a sponsor
because SQ's management is "very good" and they decided that they don't want to use any of their resources to advertise for the Amazing Race but spends most of it on expensive advertisements to fool people into flying with them.
