Today's edition of the Italian magazine L'Espresso says that Alitalia FFP is due to end as of December 31st 2007 and that awards will be given only until June 2008. It seems that to remind its customer the expiry date, Alitalia is sending special e-mails, that, among other things, invite users to avail themselves of the newly created "Millemiglia Store" ont the airline's website to use their miles not to get free air tickets but different items such as digital cameras, video games and so on...

Should you have an AZ card, it would be better to check!

This seems really a crazy decision that may precipitate AZ's ends. Their frequent customers will loose their last reason yo be loyal to AZ

From Alitalia.com:

1 - Definitions

1.1 The "Alitalia MilleMiglia Program" (henceforth known as MilleMiglia Program) is Alitalia’s award plan which lasts from 1 January 2003 to 31 December 2007.

wow , don't I feel stupid ! I thought I had checked the website carefully . It seems a very bizarre idea - then again , if all the rumours are true the airline could expire before the FF programme

Probably foreshadowing what will happen to the airline.

Alitalia will be sold to another European carrier and hopefully, and finally, run like a business, and not a place to stash "racommandata dello stato". Alitalia is a welfare state. Lousy airline, rude service. The only thing it has going for it is a stellar safety record.

Why?

I have flown AZ (and Alitalia Express) several times lately, and the experiance wasn't so lousy: punctual, clean, good pricing, nice looking girls in cabin crews  Smile ... All in all, better than some other experiances in airplanes of some other operators.

Regards,
Vlada

I'll always have a soft place in my heart for AZ. They've gotten me to and from some of the best places in Europe, and I like connecting via Milan a lot better than Paris. Their staff have smiled from time to time...I just wish they would do it more often!
