Well....at least to me it was.......

Today at YYC I drove past the cargo area and saw a 747 with only 3 windows on the second level. The balance of the windows where in place along the main section.

The plane was entirely white and had blue "Air Atlanta" lettering on the side of the front fuselage.

Why was the second level configured that way and who is "Air Atlanta" ?

Carioca

It must be Air Atlanta Icelandic. They do passenger and cargo flights on leasing. If you would like to know more go to the next link.

From what I gleaned from the photo captions Air Atlanta Icelandic is a charter carrier. I didn't see where they are based. As for the windows.........?

Although the pic says that it's a 742. However I think that's an error and it's a 741. The 747-100 only has three windows on the upper deck as described.

Crjmech........

Yes it is the same, except for the "Icelandic" word....otherwise the script is identical.

The one I saw had no tail markings as well. I searched the pics in the site and found several that where similiar to the plane I saw today.

Rojo.....

Thanks for the link.

I forgot to add that "Air Atlanta" could probably be Ted Turner's fleet of private jets.

The upper deck windows do not indicate whether an aircraft is a -100 or a -200, as some later -100s have 10 windows while others have plugs to make it look like there are only three.

Air Atlanta Icelandic is indeed a charter and ad-hoc and wet-lease airline based on Iceland, operating a fleet of 747-200/300 on behalf of many airlines worldwide. The newly delivered -300 will fly for Iberia (won't that be a sight), possibly in full IB-c/s. However, its aircraft are usually painted white, and stickers for the carrier it operates for is added. During the hadji-season, the airline's 747s are packed with moslem pilgrims flying to Mecca and Medina.
