I see that NZ2, 777-200ER LAX-LHR has been cancelled this afternoon This is rather unusual.
Has the aircraft gone tech or what?

And, I almost took that flight, but my trip got changed to next week. Where every other carrier is charging $9,000-$10,000 round trip LAX-LHR in business class, NZ has had a great $3,500 fare for most of the summer and fall. Nice carrier.

Seems as though the aircraft isn't due in LAX until 0610 so its 16 hours late ex AKL. Not worth continuing to LHR since it would have extended ground time in LAX due to LHR curfew anyway and cause a big delay to the return NZ1.

Didn't leave AKL till after 1500. Was ready to go at 1100 but no staff in T2 at LAX until 0600 so we had to delay it until 1500. All LON PAX were carried NZ39 the night before or the next night. To keep costs down the plane didn't travel onto LON.

Just as well NZ has that 2nd daily flight now!
I would assume that all the LAX-LHR-LAX pax would have been flown on VS (as is usually the way if an aircraft goes tech or oversell)?

Did you notice that this thread is over a week old? NZ2 is running normally today.

Doesn't Air New Zealand codeshare with United on LAX-LHR? I think UA might be the preferable option although they would do whatever is necessary for business class passengers.

If you have never designed an airplane part before, let the real designers do the work!

NZ and VS codeshare LAX-LHR also. But yeah you are right for business class...although VS business class is better than UA and is pretty much the same as NZ business class.

I'm really not sure why you keep saying NZ and VS codeshare on LAX-LHR or any route because they don't, there is a frequent flyer scheme they have or something.

Since posting the original I have noted that the NZ1/2 service has been rather "rocky" on time wise. Not sure if it is a -200ER problem or just a rough patch due to a thousand and one other issues. Anyone close to the operations side of NZ care to comment?

Well I can't come up with a better name for it, they have some kind of agreement for selling seats on each others flights... NZ particularly sells quite a few seats on VS8 LAX-LHR which connects with NZ6 AKL-LAX.

Thanks to bringing that to my attention, i will check the dates in future.

You are correct the NZ2 did operate into LHR today Sun 26th Nov, which was B777 ZK-OKA which is the first NZ B777 i have seen at LHR.
