I just read in USA Today that AA will commence nonstops from LGA to Northwest Arkansas regional airport (I've actually been there, it's near Wal Mart's Bentonville headquarters). It'll be an Eagle regional jet.

I thought this is interesting because people in this forum like to talk about long flights in small planes like CO's transatlantic 757's. Some even have thrown around the notion of CO starting regional jet service between Dallas Love and EWR.

Even though there is growing economic activity in Northwest Arkansas I don't know how this you'll work. This airport is in THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. I wonder if CO will start similar service from EWR. They always have to one up their competitors in NYC it seems.

Any thoughts?

I remember there being a controversy over this airport, as the headquarters of both Walmart and Tyson chicken are near this airport. As Klwright69 said, the airport is in the middle of nowhere, but has a runway capable of handling a 747.

LGA-XNA is a long route, but for the truly insane, try Comair CVG-Colorado Springs, CVG-Orlando and CVG-Nassau (all actual routes) on their CRJs.

Boeing or Airbus should design an aircraft designed to carry 70-80 pax, but not an RJ, like a 717-100 or something. Kinda like the F70, which carries 75 pax if I am right, but it's not an RJ. I spent 2.5 hours on a Comair CRJ-200 from CVG-HOU, and although the flight was nice, those RJ's are cramped.

Actually, NW Arkansas has a fair amount of biz opportunities; the regional airlines are expanding out of there like crazy. Besides, AE is doing the same thing that CO Express is doing, which is exercising that new law that allows for unlimited traffic from LGA on 60 seaters or less to small market cities. I, to be honest with you, think that the XNA-LGA route will do better than expected.

I would imagine that AA/AE would place the CRJ on that route when they take first delivery of them in August of next year. What do you think? How much more cramped is the ERJ than the CRJ? I've never been on either one of them, but have heard that the CRJ is a little more comfortable than the ERJ, but not by much.

I agree there is a lot of business activity going on in that area. It's just that taking off out of a happening place like LGA, flying for hours in that little jet then landing in that airport nestled between cattle pastures which is only accessed by a little road winding through the hills (definitely rural Arkansas) just conjures up an interesting image.

I know about new RJ service to smaller airports from LGA, I was just a little surprised by this choice at this time. I'm not questioning its' viability, it's just an interesting choice!

i used to work for Skyways in FYV and all the time we saw hords of business men from New York coming in to peddle their wares to Wal Mart, carrying all their sample cases, however back then the flew in on metroliners(without their bags, due to weight restrictions. Boy were they mad!!!).. i think this service will surprise people....They must have some agreement with the local compnaies like Walmart to supoort the service at some level

Just out of curiosity, is there even any nonstop service between Little Rock and New York? Or can Northwest Regional boast of having the only nonstop service to the NYC area from Arkansas?

There is no nonstop service from Little Rock to New York airports. All flights are
connections. The fastest is to fly Little Rock to Memphis, then to LGA on NWA.

That is interesting, how Little Rock has yet to receive nonstop LGA service, and XNA will become the first Arkansas city to have this new service. However, with this route being flown, I think a LIT-LGA route is not far behind.

Gosh....I wonder if Clinton had anything to to with this. After all Tyson and Wallyworld are his buddys. Hillary even used to be on the board of Wallyworld and Dillards. Makes perfect sense to me. Payback time by AA now that Billy Boy is on his way out.

Wow! What a great move by Eagle! You know, every now and then these airline management types (who every one nows are certified morons) get it right.

I used to fly for TWE out of STL, and we carried an unbelievable number of vendors heading to XNA to peddle thier wares to Walmart. So many of those folks originated in LGA... they had to get on one the TWQ flights to STL then endure a flight on TSA. Those folks must be singing Eagles praises, and rightly so.

I think Eagle will have to add more flights just to keep up with demand!
