TAROM of Romania receives its first new Airbus A318
15 November 2006
Romanian national carrier TAROM received the first of four A318 aircraft at a delivery ceremony in Hamburg on Wednesday 15th November.
President and CEO of TAROM, Gabriel Dumitrescu said at the delivery ceremony in Hamburg that "The aircraft you see here is an indication of our future modernization plans, to be one of the major players in the expanding European marketplace. We are moving in the right direction, and receiving the A318, which is the most modern aircraft in its category, will push us further in our journey to the top."

Well folks I think that all have actually missed out on the most important point, which is Tarom taking delivery of it's first A318. This also makes Tarom the 4th airline to operate the A318.
So it seems that the only airlines which have ordered the A318 and have yet received any example is LAN which has an order for 20 x A318 (PW6000) due early next year.

Operating only A318s is a dumb idea. This airplane was designed to be complementary in large A32X fleets. It's high CASM makes Tarom vulnerable to any competitor with decent fleet. Congratulation to our corrupted idiots leaders. (they cannot be only corrupted, they must be also idiots)

TaromA380, if in your nickname lies a secret project please let us know, otherwise your ideas of fleet improvement are a little bit too bold IMHO I think that this new aircraft is perfectly suited for Tarom's market and network, definitely a good solution to (hopefully) replace the old 737s.

You are a bit too optimistic, the A318 alone isn't at all "perfectly suited" for any market & network. It's an economical nonsense. It would makes some sense only in large A32X fleets.
Tarom's A32X fleet will have 4xA318. This is mockery, even if you takes lot of bribe.
How many other aircrafts belonging to the A320 family have they planned to buy? If the role of the A318 is to be a complementary plane and Tarom has other A32X units in order, where is the nonsense?

Another shoking rumor flying-high on Romanian media right now is that Tarom may drop its initial plans to become an associate SkyTeam member and rather join Star Alliance. Looks like STAR made a last minute offer to Tarom in terms of frequent flyer, code share, promotional offers, etc. Anyone with more info’s?

Not considering the ATR, does it make sense to have an all "737/737NG" fleet, which only equals 9 aircraft total, then buy A318s? No, but who is saying that Tarom will keep their 737s? I'm not saying they won't, but Romania is already in NATO, so who else do they need to impress? ... yeah... the EU... I think Tarom will buy more Airbus in the future...
Anyway... just a thought...
Superior decisions reduce the need for superior skills.

Whatfor do they need to impress the EU? Their accession is already decided.

I love the A318 a/c, but the Tarom's livery is not a great complement. The livery simply looks too dull!
Although, nonetheless, congrats to Tarom on the babybus!

29 PipoA380: Good news for Tarom and Airbus. About the logic of it, I don't know if it's more efficient to fly 320 and not fill them or fly full A318s... Whatever
30 Vfw614: You are trying to tell us that all it takes to become a member of the EU is to buy four Airbus ? Hmmm, you should tell the Turkish.....
31 Vio: Of course not... but I'm sure it made them look good. If they would've bought Boeing, what would the EU say?
32 TaromA380: Flying full RJ of the same capacity is certainly more efficient and logical. I wasn't there but I think the following scenery happened : 2002 : NATO
33 Vfw614: Nothing. Ask Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Slovakia, Cyprus, Hungary - or for that matter, flyLAL, Air Baltic, Estonian Air, Sky Europe, Cyprus

36 ORDagent: But remember F9 has a fleet of 318/319/320 so any issues with CASM of the 318 are obviated by the spares compatability, crew cross certification etc.

43 A342: I thought they were auctioned ? IMO they should change that to 2 military transports and give Basescu a A318Elite.
44 DEVILFISH: Now, that would be great (the Elite, I mean.) But do please give it a nice, new livery.
